한국에서 멀리 떨어져 있는 Wien의 가톨릭교회 상황을 살펴본 것은 결국 우리 한국 가톨릭교회의 현재와 미래에 대한 염려 때문이다. 한국 가톨릭교회의 실상을 제대로 깊이 들여다보고 있는 사람들은 그 미래에 대한 우려의 목소리를 적지 않게 내고 있다. 오늘날 세계적으로 발전된 교통과 통신 덕분에 지구촌에 존재하는 모든 삶의 방식들이 쉽게 서로 알려지고 교류한다. 이러한 점은 종교적 세계에도 그대로 적용되어 Wien 대교구를 비롯한 유럽교회의 신앙생활 방식이 그 안에만 머물지 않고 세계 전체에 알려지고 영향을 미친다. 그들이 오늘날 처해 있는 상황은 길지 않은 미래의 우리 상황이 될 수 있기 때문에, 이러한 현상을 정확하게 알고 그 원인을 분석하여 우리에게는 오지 않게 할 수 있는 합리적이고 적절한 방안들을 강구해야 할 것이다. 지금의 오스트리아 젊은이들에게 가톨릭교회의 언어, 음악, 미술, 전례가 낯설어졌다는 것이다. 학교교육과 글로블 시대의 메스미디어를 통해 들어오는 일반사회의 영향들 때문이다. 이 문제에 대해서는 많은 생각과 연구를 해야 하고 시의적절한 시행을 해나가야 할 것이다. 시대의 조류에 맞추기만 해서는 교회의 정체성과 나아갈 방향을 잃는 위험에 처할 수 있고, 시대의 조류를 외면하기만 해서는 새로운 세대의 사람들로부터 외면당하는 난관에 부닥칠 수 있다. 그러므로 본질과 전통을 지켜가면서도 역동성도 지니는 적절한 균형감각을 찾아내야 한다. 이러한 변화의 상황에서도 하느님께서는 늘 변함없이 계시고 교회와 함께하신다. 그렇기 때문에 우리는 근본적으로 교회의 현재와 미래에 대해 언제나 희망할 수 있다. 어떤 상황에서도 믿음과 희망 그리고 사랑으로 살아가야 하는 것이 우리 그리스도교인의 정체이자 임무인 것이다. 강해진 자의식과 더불어 비판의식도 강해진 현대인들에게 가톨릭교회의 교리를 전하는 일은 순교에 못지않은 수고를 해야만 하는 일이 되었다. 어떻게 하면 복음이 교회의 기존 구성원들과 새롭게 구성원이 될 사람들에게 실질적인 축복이 될 수 있도록 할 것인가를 더 깊이 숙고해 보아야 한다. 이것을 잘 수행하기 위해서 제시할 수 있는 종합적인 방안은 기성세대에 속한 성직자, 수도자 그리고 평신도들이 좀 더 올바르고 기쁜 신앙생활을 해나가는 것이다.
The circumstances of Wien's Catholic church, which is far from Korea, was the concern for the present and the future of our Korean Catholic church. People who look deep into the true picture of the Korean Catholic church are considerably voicing their concern about the future. Thanks to developed transportation and telecommunications all over the world today, all of life that exists in this global village know each other and can interact easily. This also applied intact to the religious world, and the way of religious life in the European church, including the archdiocese of Wien, which doesn't remain in there, and doesn't hold to the spiritual way of living of only that at the Wien Church, but which is well known and influential all over the world. We should be moving towards the creation of a reasonable and proper plan to have this phenomenon have no affect us by knowing what it exactly is and by analyzing the causes, because the situation that they are encountering could be ours in the not too distant future. Language, music and rituals of the Catholic Church are unfamiliar to current young people of Austria. This is because of the influences of general society pushed through education in school and the mass media of this global age. We will have to research much more with deep thinking and will have to start well-timed implementation. If the church comforts these current times, we could face the danger of losing the church's identity and direction, and if we disregard these current times, we could meet with difficulty that which is ignored by the younger generation. Therefore, we should find a relevant sense of balance between keeping the essence and tradition and keeping it dynamic. Under these circumstances of change, God still Exists and Is with the Church. That is why we always can essentially hope for the present and the future of the Church. In any condition, living with belief, hope and love is Catholicism’s identity and mission. It became laborious having to make the effort, as much as martyr, letting the contemporary people who have a stronger self-conscious and stronger criticism know Catholic doctrine. We should deliberate deeper on how we can make the gospel into an actual blessing for both existing members and potential members of the Church. To fulfill this well, comprehensive ways which are possible to suggest are that the priests, monks, and laity who are of the older generation apply a religious life rightly and pleasurably.
