제 7차 교육과정에 의거한 교과용 도서에는 ‘도형 덮기’에 관한 내용이 소개되어 있는데, 일선 현장에서는 도형 덮기에 내재되어 있는 테셀레이션의 원리를 탐구하기 보다는 단순히 도형을 덮어볼 뿐 중요한 수학적 원리를 탐구하고 있지 못하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 테셀레이션 원리를 탐구할 수 있는 프로그램을 개발하고, 그러한 프로그램을 4학년 학생 6명에게 교수 실험하여 학생들의 반응을 분석하고, 개발된 프로그램이 학생들의 테셀레이션 원리 이해에 효과가 있는지를 살펴보았다. 먼저, 테셀레이션 원리를 지도할 수 있는 프로그램을 개발하기 위해 테셀레이션 원리라는 최종 목표뿐만 아니라, 중간 성취 목표를 고려하였다. 본 연구에서 개발한 프로그램을 통하여 학생들은 수업 과정에서 당황이나 혼돈을 겪기도 하였지만, 초등학생들도 정다각형 테셀레이션이나 일반 다각형 테셀레이션을 충분히 탐구할 수 있었다. 또한, 본 논문에서 개발한 프로그램이 학생들의 테셀레이션 원리 이해에 도움이 되었다. 따라서 본 연구는 초등 수학 교육 과정을 수립할 때나 교과용 도서를 개발할 때, 혹은 테셀레이션을 주제로 초등학교 수학 영재들을 지도할 때에 시사점을 줄 것으로 기대된다.

This study was conducted to develop a tessellation program for Elementary school students. In some countries, there were programs to teach tessellation principles. But in Korea, we don't have any programs to teach tessellastion principles. Our students just cover pre-given shapes with figures(triangles, quadrilaterals). So, I developed tessellation programs for 7 school hours considering Koran curriculum, tessellation principles, and intermediate attainment targets. Teaching experiments were carried out with six fourth graders who participated voluntarily. Students had some obstacles to construct tessellation principles by themselves, but they could do by teacher's focusing questions. The program was effective to teach tessellation principles.
