이 글은 소수자 관점에서 한국고전여성문학의 성격과 의미를 살핀 글이다. 소수자는 수적인 소수만을 의미하는 것이 아니라 사회적인 차별과 배제의 대상이 되어 온 존재들로 표준화될 수 없다고 해서 주류 세력이 소외시킨 정치적 소수집단을 의미한다. 이런 의미에서 조선시대의 여성은 소수자에 포함된다. 이처럼 권력으로 배제되어 있는 소수자들이 갖는 소수성의 본질은 다수자의 지배에서 벗어나 새로운 가치와 활동을 생성하는 데 있으며, 권력과 대결하는 변이의 힘에 있다. 따라서 소수자 문학 역시 소수 집단 언어의 문학을 지칭한다기보다는 지배 집단의 언어권에서 소수 집단이 지탱해 나가는 문학을 지칭하며 근본적으로 정치성을 띤다. 조선시대 여성들이 창작한 문학 작품은 표준적인 장르의 위계 바깥에 위치하며 그 미학도 표준적인 미학적 규범으로 설명하기 어려운 특징을 보여준다. 조선시대 여성문학이 갖는 이러한 특질들은 사대부 남성들이 중심이 된 주류문학과 매우 이질적인 양상을 보인다. 이러한 이질성은 곧 가부장제 남성들이 매우 낯설어하는 것으로 그 자체로 가부장적 가치와 전통을 전복시키는 의미를 갖는다. 소수자 관점에서 고전여성문학사를 바라본다는 것은 ‘모든 부류의 문학하는 주체와 내용’을 끌어들이며 소수자 간의 연대를 가능하게 한다는 점에서 의미를 가지게 될 것이라고 생각된다.
This article examined the characteristics and the significance of Classical Woman Literature from a minority group's perspective. The word of minority in this sense does not only carry a sense in number but also refers to groups subjected to social discrimination and exclusion. These groups have been marginalized by the majority for the reason that the groups do not conform to existing norms. In this regards, women in the Cho-sun dynasty era can be categorized as a minority group. The essential character of the minorities that are excluded from the power lays in their acts to create new values that is free from the regulation of the majority, and in their strength to resist against the power of it. Therefore, minority literature refers to the literature that the minority groups hold on and sustain rather than to the one written in the language used by the minority groups. Thus, minority literature takes on political characteristics. The literature composed by women in the Cho-sun dynasty era has been positioned out side of the hierarchy of the general genre, and thus it was not easily explained through the general esthetic categories. Such characteristics of women's literature during the Cho-sun era differs to a great extent from the mainstream-literature occupied mostly by the gentry, and such heterogeneity was taken by patriarchal men as something very strange. These characteristics signify women's literature as for overthrowing the patriarchal tradition and values. In this regards, it is expected that looking at the classical women's literature would be a significant attempt that engages 'the subject and the text of all kinds of literature' and enables solidarity among minority groups.
