이 글은 『삼한습유』의 서사 시공간의 변화와 주제 사이의 상관성을 탐색한 논문이다. 『삼한습유』는 형식의 일정 부분을 『서유기』에서 빌려왔다. “형식은 하나의 입장이고 세계관”이라는 루카치의 명제로 볼 때, 이는 『삼한습유』가 “환상의 시공을 창조하여, 스스로 이념의 금기와 억압을 해제한 뒤, 고상하고 우아한 현실의 존재들을 가차 없이 풍자하고 조롱하여 그들의 추악하고 야비한 실상을 드러내는” 『서유기』의 정신을 지니고 있음을 뜻한다. 하지만 『삼한습유』의 형식과 주제가 전적으로 『서유기』의 그것과 같은 것은 아니다. 이 글에서는 시대와 국적을 달리하는 두 작품의 상사점과 상이점을 밝혀내기 위해 구조 분석을 시도하였다. 이를 통해 『삼한습유』는 한 인물의 일생을 그려내는 傳의 형식을 지니고 있음에 반해, 『서유기』는 한 사건의 본말을 담은 記의 형식을 띠고 있음이 드러났다. 이는 『삼한습유』의 서사가 시간의 흐름에 따라 전개되는 반면, 『서유기』의 서사는 공간의 이동을 통해 진행된다는 사실을 의미한다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 일상과 다른 시공간의 설정을 통해 절대 진리와 존재에 대한 풍자와 조롱을 시도하고 있다는 점에서 공통의 美感을 자아내는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 또 미시적인 관점에서, 『삼한습유』에 있어 시공간의 전환이 어떻게 주제의 변화와 상관되는가도 살펴보았다. 이 글은 텍스트 내적인 차원과 비교문학적인 차원에서, 공간과 주제의 상관성을 설명해주며, 『삼한습유』 독법의 다양성을 제공한다.
This article is to search an interrelationship between the change of narration of time and space and the theme of the “Samhanseupyu” The “Samhanseupyu” borrowed a part of its styles from the “Journey to the West.” Based on the proposition of Georg Lukach, ‘a style is a ground and a world view,’ we can assume that the “Samhanseupyu” reflects the spirit of the “Journey to the West” that ‘creates a time and space of fantasy to self-release the bondage of taboo and oppression of ideology and to expose the ugly and mean aspects of the noble and elegant figures of the real world through relentlessly satirizing them.’ However, this does not mean that the style and theme of the “Samhanseupyu” are absolutely same as those of the “Journey to the West.” In this article, a structural analysis is attempted to find out the points of similarity and difference between the two works which are written in different times and countries. Through such an attempt it was discovered that the “Samhanseupyu” bears a style of a biography which describes the life of a certain person and, on the other hand, the “Journey to the West” bears a style of records which describes causes and effects of events. This means while the narration of the “Samhanseupyu” is unfolded by following the flow of time, the narration of the “Journey to the West” is done through the shifting of the spaces. Nevertheless, both works attempt to create same kinds of sense of aesthetics in satirizing and fooling the absolute truth and being through setting up time and space very different from those of the regular life. In a microscopic view, this article also searched the interrelationship between the change of time and space and the change of theme in the “Samhanseupyu.” This article explains the interrelationship of space and theme from the text internal dimension and comparative literature dimension. Also, it provides a variety of ways of reading for the “Samhanseupyu”.
