본 논문은 가톨릭교회의 대표적 신비가인 십자가의 성 요한의 인간 이해의 핵심 개념 가운데 하나인 ‘초본성’(超本性) 개념에 대한 고찰이다. 그가 제시하는 인간 이해의 핵심은 향주적 인간상(向主的 人間像)으로서 구체적으로는 ‘하느님과의 사랑의 합일’을 향한 인간 실존에 대한 이해에 있으며, 이것은 본질적으로 초본성적이다. 본 논문이 의도하는 것은 십자가의 성 요한의 인간 이해에서 드러나는 이 ‘초본성’ 개념이 내포한 신학적 의미를 고찰하는 것이다. 이를 위해 우선 그의 ‘초본성’ 개념에서 드러나는 교부 신학과 스콜라 신학의 영향을 고찰하고, 다음으로 20세기 들어 현대 신학자들, 특히 드 뤼박, 라너, 후안 알파로를 통해 새롭게 제시된 초본성에 대한 전망을 살펴볼 것이다. 그리고 이를 바탕으로 십자가 성 요한의 ‘초본성’ 개념이 내포한 신학적 의미를 끌어내고자 한다. 다양한 영성적 표현으로 드러나고 있는 십자가 성 요한의 핵심적인 인간학적, 영성적 주제인 ‘초본성’ 개념을 20세기의 새로운 신학적 전망에서 재해석된 ‘초본성’ 개념과 비교, 분석함으로써 우리는 신학의 두 분야인 신비신학과 신학적 인간학 사이의 접점을 근본에서부터 재정립하는데 도움을 받을 것이다.
The purpose of this essay is to understand the concept of the supernatural as a central theme of the anthropology of St. John of the Cross, one of the greatest mystics of the catholic church. The essence of the understanding of the human person from the perspective of St. John consists in one's capacity for union with God in love, which is essentially supernatural. This study aims to analyze the concept of the 'supernatural' from the standpoint St. John so as to draw out the theological meaning. For this, first, I will show the influence of the Fathers of the church and scholastic theology in his understanding of the supernatural. Then, I will present new ways of understanding of the supernatural among theologians of the 20th century, specially De Lubac, K. Rahner, and J. Alfaro. In this study I will show the theological understanding of the supernatural in St. John. A comparison between St. John and various modern theologians from this particular point of view of the supernatural will help us restore the relationship between mystical theology and theological anthropology.
