본고는 한글산문 「當宁登極時筵說」의 성립과정을 모색해보려는 시도이다. 「연설」은 헌종이 승하한 후 사왕(嗣王)을 결정하는 과정을 순원왕후의 한글 교서를 중심으로 이루어진 한글산문이다. 「연설」은 작자와 창작연대, 전사시기와 전사가가 명확히 밝혀지지 않았다. 다만, 「연설」의 전사경위에서 전사시기는 1849년 8월 어느 날에 전사된 것임을 알 수 있어 창작시기는 1849년 6월과 8월 사이로 추정할 수 있다. 「연설」은 헌종의 승하를 애도하고 사왕을 영조(英祖)의 혈손인 전계군(全溪君)의 제 3자 이원범(李元範, 君號 德完君, 당시 19세)으로 결정하여 그가 왕(哲宗)으로 즉위하기까지에 이르는 막중한 국사를 다루고 있다. 왕이 즉위하기까지 4일 동안(1849.6.6～6.9) 순원왕후와 제신과의 생생한 대화를 기록한바, 이는 「연설」의 특징이라고 할 수 있다. 『경산일록』과 「긔유긔」와 대비해 본 결과, 「연설」은 정원용의 『경산일록』에서 보이는 신이한 요소를 수용하여 철종등극 과정의 정당성을 강조하고 있었다. 반면, 「긔유긔」는 「연설」의 내용을 축약하면서 서술시각이 철종에 대한 찬양으로 변주되어 있었다. 한글산문에서 「연설」은 실기문학으로서의 위상을 가진다. 「연설」은 ‘구화적 성격’이 강한 바, 고전희곡에서 인물들 간에 나누는 白과 같은 생생함은 느낄 수 없다. 그러나 「연설」은 『경산일록』에서 보이는 상세한 상황묘사와 인물의 내면심리 등을 배제하고 순원왕후와 제신들 간의 토론을 장면화 하여 집중적으로 보여주고 있다. 토론의 장면화는 등장인물들 사이에 특정한 문제를 놓고 서로의 주장을 이야기하는 방식을 극화한 것을 말한다. 「연설」의 작자는 연석에서의 생생한 대화 장면을 민중에게 전하고 왕의 계승의 정통성을 효과적으로 달성하기를 원했다. 이러한 면은 기존 논의에서 강조됐던 「연설」의 극문학적 성격을 보여주는 근거로 온전하지 않지만 「연설」의 특질을 보여주는 중요한 지점이라고 할 수 있다. 이와 달리, 「긔유긔」는 동일한 소재를 다루고 있지만 「연설」에서 보이는 토론은 보이지 않는다. 이 자료도 순원왕후의 한글 교서가 중심이 되어 서사가 전개되고 있지만 철종 등극의 당위성을 강조하지 않고 철종의 성덕을 찬양하는 데 중점을 두고 있다. 이러한 변주는 한글산문이라는 장르 안에서 이루어진 주제적 변주이기도 하지만 다른 장르로의 변주로의 가능성도 시사하고 있어 의미가 있다.

In this paper, I attempted to find the establishing process of Korean prose 「Dangju-Deungguk Si Yun-sul」. 「Yun-sul」wove the process of Chul-jong's assession around Korean message of queen, Sunwon. In 「Yun-sul」, after Hun-jong was dead, the urgent situation of deciding the next king was well presented. Especially, we may easily assume that 「Yun-sul」 has differentiated characteristics in comparison with other documentation because it was written by Hangul. These characteristics include the borrowing of fictional elements which are different from historical facts, the sense of realism, and conversation in a fixed space. From 「Kyung-san Il Lok」, 「Yun-sul」 had the realness on materials. Although 「Kyung-san Il Lok」 was created for personal purpose, it was comparatively practical. Therefore, it was wrote around the records of historical truths, and moreover, it formed concrete events from them. 「Yun-sul」 improved the propriety of Chul-jong's assession all the more through borrowing the fictional elements in 「Kyung-san Il Lok」. This result is the main difference between 「Yun-sul」and 「Kyung-san Il Lok」. This element considerably affects the creation of 「Guiyugisa」. However, 「Guiyugisa」 did not emphasize the propriety of the Chul-jong's assession. It just showed the extreme fatigue of Bongyong's journeys and the real condition of civilians. With this, a subject turned to the praises for Sung-Duck after the Chul-jong's assession. Although this variation is formed in the genre of Korean prose, it carries an important meaning because it has possible to be turned into other genre.
