정지영상 압축 기술은 인터넷과 멀티미디어 기술이 발전함에 따라 중요한 기술로 인식되었으며, 특히 JPEG 압축 기술은 국제 표준 방식으로 지난 10여 년 간 많은 응용 분야에서 이용되어 왔다. 기존 JPEG 기반의 정지 영상은 압축비가 높을 경우 화질이 많이 떨어지는 단점을 가지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 JPEG에 비해 많은 장점 및 새로운 특성을 갖고 있는 웨이브릿 변환 기반의 JPEG2000 정지영상압축 소프트웨어를 개발하고, 구현된 시스템을 순응시험을 실시하였으며, 개발된 JPEG2000 코덱을 이용한 압축을 하여 정지영상의 압축 시 노이즈의 감소를 줄일 수 있는 시스템을 개발 정지 영상 압축 기술의 새로운 표준인 JPEG2000을 이용하여 이미지를 압축하였을 경우 이미지의 손상률을 줄이기 위한 알고리즘을 제안하였고 하드웨어로 설계, 제안한 처리 과정은 웨이블릿 계수의 특성을 고려하여 연산을 하였으며 이미지의 잡음을 제거하는 효과를 얻었다.
