이 글은 개인주의가 기초로 하고 있는 인식의 오류를 지적함으로써 개인주의가 초래하는 우리의 삶이 가상현실임을 밝히고, 이것이 우리의 선택지가 될 수 없다고 주장한다. ‘나는 나 너는 너, 우리는 남이다’와 ‘인간은 악한 존재이다’라는 인식의 오류는 ‘죽으면 끝이다, 나는 일단 살고 봐야한다’는 인식오류로 귀착되고, 이것이 바로근대정치사상이 ‘죽음에 대한 공포’에서 벗어나지 못하는 까닭이라는 것을 동서 정치사상 문헌연구를 통해 밝혔다.
This study finds the epistemological errors embedded in individualism and argues that the virtual reality incurred by them can not be our choice to make for the pursuit of happiness. The fear of death that modern political thinkers freely take advantage of in their social contract theories are shown to originate in the above errors. It is concluded that erroneous premise of the death being the end of life, which are to be necessarily derived from the equally erroneous premises of both ‘we-are-otherness’and ‘evil human nature,’ props up the fear-stricken modern political thoughts.
