The purpose of this study is to show that the concept of remoteness is more deeply rooted in English tense and aspect than commonly thought. Tense often deals with the event in time; however, this thought can confuse many EFL students since it is not widely applied in the real contexts. Such problems can be solved by the careful analysis of the remoteness between sentences used in different verb forms. The concept of remoteness solves the old ideas limited to past, present, or future tense. Remoteness is reflected not only in the time distance, but also in spatial distance, or psychological reality. Moreover, it is rooted in the aspect. The English aspect is divided into two parts: grammatical and lexical. Each aspect has its inherent characteristics and operate appropriately with each other. It was also found that when lexical and grammatical aspects operate with each other, the degree of the remoteness changes according to the inherent characteristics of each aspect. Understanding the concept of remoteness will contribute to English learners by encouraging them to identify the hidden concept of the target language. Finally, some pedagogical implications are discussed in the last chapter.
