The Journal of Linguistic Science 73, 121-136. The purpose of this study is to clarify that there is no subject constraint in prefinal ‘-deo-’. So far, most Korean linguists insisted that the subject of sentence was restricted by prefinal ‘-deo-’. In other words, if the speaker and the subject are the same person, then the sentence which includes ‘-deo-’ will be ungrammatical or unnatural. Vice versa, in the case of psychological adjectives, only if the speaker and the subject are the same person, the sentence which includes ‘-deo-’ will be grammatical. In contrast with this opinion, I argue that there is no subject constraint in prefinal ‘-deo-’. The sentence which includes ‘-deo-’ is ungrammatical, not because the subject of sentence was restricted by prefinal ‘-deo-’, but because the speaker could not watch himself. To prove my argument that there is no subject constraint in prefinal ‘-deo-’, I explain explicitly reversal phenomenon of subject constraint in the case of the psychological adjectives. In addition to this, I present many examples which deny the subject constraint in prefinal ‘-deo-’.
