This paper discusses the relationship among vowels with reference to the data UPSID451 to find out the phonological typology of vowel system of human languages. We claim that long vowels and nasal vowels should be taken into consideration for the vowel systems of natural languages, and that they will constitute an additional vowel system. In particular, unlike nasal vowels long vowels which are different from short vowels in vowel quality should be included in the primary vowel system. We also discuss the configuration of peripheral vowels and interior vowels; though they are different in vowel height in many ways they should be integrated into either high vowels or mid vowels.
