Wh-in-situ has been a central topic of discussion in the vast literature for a long time. Although linguists differ greatly in detail as to how the scope interpretation in wh-in-situ questions is obtained, in general, there have been five major approaches to the issue of wh-in-situ presented: (a) covert phrasal movement, (b) non-movement (binding), (c) overt phrasal movement, (d) overt feature movement, (e) covert feature movement. In this paper, we will discuss three types of wh-in-situ, and suggest that wide scope interpretation of wh-in-situ can be captured by a Multiple Agree between C and wh-phrases, without assuming feature-movement or unselective binding by appealing to some parameterization. We will also present some problems with the covert phrasal/feature movement approach with respect to some issues. (Kosin University)
