Fitzgerald's effort to revise Tender Is the Night after its first publication, has shown the writer's difficulty to represent his literary theme to the readers. Fitzgerald was never sure of its true order of construction for the effective way to deliver what he felt about the reality of the historical process and the sexual disorder of the times. Fortunately, Fitzgerald's original version, in which an innocent narrator uses an extended flashback to tell the story of Dick Diver, has survived as the definitive text. However, the popular movie of 1985 based on the revised edition, in which the story is narrated in the chronological order, is more appealing to the audience and the readers. Consequently, both two versions contributed to extending the interpretation of the novel.
