The character of Ongju Garye(翁主嘉禮) in Yeongjo(英祖) period and the value of 『Ongju Garyedeungrok(翁主嘉禮謄錄)』

조선시대의 왕실혼례는 주로 국왕과 왕세자를 비롯하여 왕자(대군, 군)와 왕녀(공주, 옹주), 세자의 아들(세손)과 딸(군주, 현주) 등 왕실의 혼인의식을 가리킨다. 왕실혼례는 곧 국가의 혼인이라고 해서 ‘국혼(國婚)’이라고 하고 또 경사스러운 의식이라고 해서 ‘가례(嘉禮)’라고도 하였다. 다만, 조선시대에는 왕비의 몸에서 태어난 아들과 딸을 대군(大君), 공주(公主)라고 부르고, 후궁의 몸에서 태어난 아들과 딸을 군(君), 옹주(翁主)라고 불렀다. 세자의 경우, 세자의 적녀는 군주(郡主), 서녀는 현주(縣主)라고 하였다. 이 글은 조선 22대 임금인 영조의 딸들이 혼례의식을 살피고, 그 자료인 『옹주가례등록』의 사료적 가치와 의미를 밝히고자 한 글이다. 흔히 왕실문화를 연구할 때 주로 활용되는 자료는 의궤이다. 그렇지만, 의궤는 왕과 왕비, 대비, 왕세자, 왕세손을 대상으로 하는 행사만을 기록할 뿐, 다른 왕실 가족들의 행사는 기록하지 않았다. 물론 왕, 왕비, 왕세자, 왕세손의 행사에 의궤와 함께 등록이 작성되었으나, 왕세자 이하의 행사는 등록만이 작성된 것이다. 그러므로 왕세자 이하의 왕자나 왕녀에 관한 행사를 연구하기 위해서는 등록(謄錄)을 통해서만이 접근이 가능하다. 현재 한국학중앙연구원 내에 장서각에는 6건의 『옹주가례등록』이 소장되어 있다. 이 자료는 영조대 6명의 옹주가례와 관련된 유일한 자료이다. 18세기 영조대조선왕실의 혼례문화 뿐 아니라 조선시대 왕녀(王女)들의 혼례 변화상을 이해하는 데 커다란 도움을 제공한다.

Royal marriage of Chosun dynasty is mainly referring between king and queen, or between prince and princess etc. Royal marriage was called Garye(嘉禮) that meaning joyful ceremony or called ‘Gukhon(國婚)’ that meaning national marriage. Just called differently - queen's sun or daughter as Daegun(大君) or Gongju(公主), and concubine's sun or daughter as Gun(君) or Ongju(翁主). This paper is written to search for the King Yeongjo's daughters' marriage, as the result of ..Ongju Garyedeungrok.. to figure out the historical value and meaning. When we research on royal culture, commonly we use Uigwe(儀軌 : meaning royal record book) However, there was written just about King, Queen, Daebi(King's mother), Prince, Princess all in Uigwe not the royal family member else. Of course, whenever the royal event of King, Queen, Prince and Princess were recorded in both Uigwe(儀軌) and Deungrok(謄錄 : meaning the draft typed record of government office), but the event below Prince grade just Deungrok was written. So when we research on the royal event below Prince grade, we can access only by data of Deungrok. Now there are 6 case of ..Onju Garyedeungrok.. in the Janseogak(藏書閣: meaning record keeping room) in The Academy of Korean Studies. These are the only data referring to 6 members' Onju Garye in Yeongjo period. These offer the great help to understand the change of royal woman's marriage and the marriage culture of the Chosun dynasty in 18th century's Yeongjo period.
