Japanese and Yasukuni Shrine: focusing on the pros and cons of the Yasukuni Shrine pray

본 논문은 일본사회에 전후라는 용어가 사라진지 50여년이 되었지만, 왜 야스쿠니신사문제가 지금도 일본사회에 중요한 이슈가 되고 있는 지에 대한 연구이다. 야스쿠니신사 문제는 전후 일본정치경제체제의 변화에도 불구하고 일본사회에 미치는 영향은 크다. 하지만 기존의 대부분의 유사 연구들은 야스쿠니를 일본의 국내적 역사인식의 도구차원에서 분석하고 있으며 야스쿠니신사참배에 대한 일본국내여론의 찬성과 반대에 대한 분석연구는 제한적이라 하겠다. 특히 2000년대에 들어와서 일본이 잃어버린10년의 장기불황이후 수상들의 야스쿠니신사 참배문제가 한중일간의 외교문제로 비화되기도 했다. 야스쿠니문제가 이처럼 국제적으로 비화 되어가는 이유는 야스쿠니신사에 A급 전범을 포함한 일본인전사자만이 아니라 조선인과 타이완인등 구 식민지전사자들도 합사되어있기 때문이다. 그리고 현재 일본사회의 우경화 논란 속에서 고이즈미 전 수상의 야스쿠니신사 참배가 왜 문제가 되는지와 그리고 수상이 야스쿠니를 언제 참배하게 될지에 대해서 일본 국내는 물론 한국 과 중국을 비롯한 동남아시아 국가들의 관심사이기도 하다. 그래서 본 논문은 전후 일본지도자들의 야스쿠니신사 참배문제가 일본에서는 어떻게 인식되고 있으며, 야스쿠니의 역사적 견해, 그리고 야스쿠니문제를 둘러싼 참배 찬성과 반대에 대한 일본국내의 현상을 분석하려한다.

This article aims to focus on the understanding of why the Yasukuni Shrine issue is still important in the Japanese society even now, when fifty years have passed since postwar. The Yasukuni Shrine issue still has a big influence on the Japanese society, even though there has been changes in the Japanese political economy since the postwar. Meanwhile, most of the previous studies of the Yasukuni Shrine issue were focused on domestic historical context, and payed little attention to the domestic pros and cons of worshiping Yasukuni Shrine. Since year 2000, after the Japanese economy depression, Prime Minister Koizumi's visit to the Yasukuni Shrine was blamed by the Korean and Chinese governments due to Japan's non-reflection of the war. It led to diplomatic issues among the northeast Asian countries. However, the Japanese government insisted that worshiping at the Yasukuni Shrine is a domestic issue rather than an international issue. The reason why Yasukuni issue is turning into a global debate is that in the shrine, not only first class Japanese war criminals were dedicated, but also Korean and Taiwanese former soldiers. And as the Japanese society is swinging to the right, the issue of when Premier of Japan will visit the Yasukuni Shrine is becoming important to northeast Asian countries. Therefore, this thesis aims to analyze how Japan views the issue of Japanese Premiers visiting the Yasukuni Shrine, and the pros and cons on worshiping the Yasukuni Shrine.
