현재 세계적으로 무슬림은 약 14억 명 정도이고 세계인구의 약 20%를 차지하고 있다. 또한 이슬람은 다른 세계종교에 비해 경이로운 성장을 경험하고있는 중이다. 하버드 대학의 사무엘 헌팅턴(Samuel Huntington)교수는 영향력의 차원에서 볼 때 20세기 후반의 이슬람의 재 부흥(Islamic Resurgence)은 16세기 후반의 “종교개혁”(the Protestant Reformation)에 비유될 수 있다고 말했다. 본 연구는 기독교와 이슬람의 내세론의 주요내용들(죽음, 부활, 심판, 심판자, 낙원, 지옥 등)에 대해 비교연구하며 복음주의관점으로 비평하는 데목적이 있다. 연구자는 양 종교의 교리를 비교한 결과 내세론에서 크게 네 가지 주요한차이점을 발견할 수 있었다: 첫째, 낙원(혹은 천국)의 성격에서의 차이였다. 둘째, 마지막 심판의 목적에서의 차이였다. 셋째, 한 번의 부활을 가르치는이슬람과 두 번의 부활을 가르치는 성경의 가르침의 차이였다. 넷째, 심판의기준 및 심판자의 품성(속성)에서의 차이였다. 그럼 동일하게 유일신 종교인두 종교의 내세론에 대한 가르침에 왜 이런 차이가 나는 것인가? 무슬림들에 의하면 성경원본(the original Bible)은 하나님(알라)의 말씀이었고 꾸란의 내용과 완전일치 하지만 유대인들과 기독교인들이 자신들에게 유리하게 내용을 변질시켰다고 주장한다. 이런 이유로 현재 기독교가 사용하는 성경은왜곡되어 비진리들로 가득하다고 주장한다. 21세기 개신교회의 선교의 성패는 이슬람권 선교에 그 성공이 달려 있다고 말해도 그리 틀리지 않는데 그만큼 이슬람은 예수 그리스도의 복음에 가장 저항적인 종교이기 때문이다. 따라서 무슬림들에게 복음을 전하고자 하는 자는 할 수 있는 대로 이슬람에 대해 많이 알아둘 필요가 있다. 무함마드,꾸란, 이슬람의 주요 교리들에 대해 그리고 무슬림들의 삶과 문화에 대해 구체적이며 바른 이해와 지식을 가질 필요가 있다. 이슬람에 대한 풍부한 지식은 무슬림들과의 대화 시 많은 도움을 제공해주며 또한 지혜롭게(intelligently)그리고 효과적으로(effectively) 복음을 전하게 도와줄 수 있다.

There are about 1.4 billion Muslims in the world-about 20 percent of the world’s population. Islam is the fastest-growing religion in the world. Harvard professor Samuel Huntington said, “the 20th century New Islam bears striking resemblance indeed to the Protestant Reformation of the sixteenth century.” The purpose of this study was to compare the teachings of the Afterlife doctrine of Christianity and Islam. And this writer have tried to evaluate the Islamic teaching of afterlife with an evangelical theological view. He found four major differences on the teaching of afterlife of both religions: First, there is a quite a difference of the character of heaven(paradise). Second, Islam teaches only on general judgment. However, Scripture indicates there are two judgements: oen for believers and another for nonbeliever. Third, The purpose of the judgment is different. The purpose of the final judgement of Islam view is to determine whether or not one is saved. However Scripture teaches believers will receive rewards and crowns at the judgement seat of Christ. Scripture also reveals that nonbelievers will face a horrific judgment at the Great White Throne judgement. Fourth, there is a character difference of the judge. Scripture teaches that believers will face a God whose attributes are absolutely consistent. He is always pure in every way and is separate from all that is morally imperfect. By contrast the Muslims must face Allah who sometimes does good and other times evil, who sometimes shows mercy and other times cruelty. Why, then, are the differences between the teaching of the Quran and Christian Bible? Muslims argue that the Scripture (the Bible) today is not the same as the Bible originally given to man. Muslims claim that the original Bible was the Word of God, but that it then became corrupted by Jews and Christians. The Bible of today has been mingled with many untruths. Islam is the most resistible religion of Christianity. Knowing Islam is important because it has the power to change of destinies of hundreds of millions of people. The Christians who seeks to witness to Muslims should learn as much about Islam as possible: He or she should learn something of the history, the doctrines. Only when a Christian understands some of these factors he or she will be able to intelligently and effectively share the gospel of Christ with a Muslim.
