This paper is a case study of one denomination, and, firstly, will trace the history of research on the historical and theological beginning of Korea Evangelical Holiness Church (KEHC), and try to describe their questions and contributory answers. That is to say, the main purpose of the paper is not searching for the history of the denomination, but for self-understanding of her historical heritage. Especially, focusing on the recent interpretations of history and theology, it will show, secondly, on what kinds of theological understandings they have been based, con- sciously or unconsciously. Thirdly, this paper may hopefully suggest a clue for other holiness traditions to understand their historical and theo- logical identities at a place somewhere between the general Wesleyan heritage and their own unique experiences. For KEHC they are between Wesleyanism and the fourfold gospel: regeneration, sanctification, divine healing, and second coming, formed experientially and radically from Wesley’s idea of “full salvation.” Finally, although the studies have not followed a missiological approach, it will observe, they have traced back and flashed back in the opposite direction of a chronological order. Paradoxically and interestingly, this paper will point out, in their inter- pretations the researchers’ own expectations or visions for the denomina- tion’s future also have been included.
이 논문은 구체적인 한 교단연구사에 해당하는 것으로, 첫째, 기독교대한성결교 회(기성)의 역사적 신학적 기원에 관한 연구의 역사를 추적하고, 그들의 질문과 공헌적인대답을기술한다. 즉이논문의주요목적은교단의역사를찾는것이 아니라, 역사적 유산에 대한 자기-이해를 추적하는 것이다. 특별히 역사와 신학 에 대한 최근의 해석들에 초점을 맞추면서, 이 논문은 둘째로, 그것들이 의식적 이든 무의식적이든 어떤 종류의 신학적 이해에 기초하고 있는지를 보인다. 셋 째로, 이 논문은 다른 성결전통들이 자신들의 역사적 신학적 정체성을, 일반적 인 웨슬리안 유산과 자신들의 고유한 체험 사이에서, 이해하는데 단서를 제공 하려고 한다. 기성에 관한 한, 그것들은 웨슬리신학과 사중복음 사이에 있다: 즉 “중생,” “성결”과, 웨슬리의 “온전한 복음”이라는 생각으로부터 체험적으로 그리고 급진적으로 형성된 “신유”와 “재림” 사이에 있다. 마지막으로, 이 연구 는 선교적인 접근을 따르고 있지는 않지만, 연대기적인 순서의 역순을 따라 추 적하여, 역설적으로 그리고 흥미롭게, 이 각 해석들에는 교단의 미래를 포함하 여, 연구자의 기대와 비전을 포함하고 있음을 밝힌다.
