고유지명어 ‘·쇠·’는 현재의 忠州市 可金面 樓巖里의 다락바위를 중심으로 남한강을 따라 놓여있던 물 언덕 돌길이다. 이 지점은 남한강과 달천이 합류하여 북서쪽 여주 방면으로 꺾여 흘러 나가는 물길의 길목이다. 漢江 流域과 洛東江 流域을 연결하는 남북 교통의 要衝地로 漕運이 중요시되던 시기에 地理的 座標와 같은 역할을 했던 곳이다. ‘·쇠·’는 전부요소 ‘·쇠’와 後部要素 ‘·’로 분석되며 ‘·쇠’는 물이 깊은 곳을 뜻하는 ‘·소’에 속격 ‘-ㅣ’가 결합된 형태로 보인다. 후부요소 ‘·’는 ‘*벼’에 소급되며 물 언덕 돌길을 뜻한다. 고유지명어 ‘·쇠·’를 배경으로 만들어진 한자지명어로 ‘淵遷’과 ‘金遷’이 있다. ‘淵遷’의 ‘淵’은 고유지명어가 지닌 意味를 충실히 반영하여 선택된 한자이다. 반면에 ‘金遷’의 ‘金’은 漢字借用表記의 原理에서 보면 假字에 속하는 것이다. ‘淵遷’은 朝鮮初에 한시적으로 쓰였던 명칭이나 ‘金遷’은 오랜 기간 사용되었다. ‘金遷’은 확장형 金遷江, 金遷倉, 金遷站, 金遷津 등의 명칭을 비롯하여 行政地名으로도 활용되었다. 오늘날 ‘金遷’과 관련있는 명칭으로 行政區域名인 ‘可金面’이 있으며 업소명으로 ‘金遷注油所’가 있다. ‘淵遷’은 그 잔영을 찾을 수 없다. 그리고 고유지명어 ‘·쇠·’와 관련된 지명으로 쇠꼬지, 쇠여울, 소일 등이 있다.
The native toponym word ‘Soybyora(·쇠·)’ refers to a stoney road along the riverbank of Namhan River in the present Chung-ju City Kageummyeon Nuamri. It is located at the crossroad where Namhan River meets Dal Brook and flows northwest toward Yeoju. An important traffic hub of north and south linking the regions of the Han River and the Nakdong River, it functioned as a landmark at the times of river transportation. ‘Soybyora(·쇠·)’ is composed of the front part ‘Soy·쇠’ and the rear part ‘Byora·’. The front part ‘Soy·쇠’ is formed by adding the genitive ‘-ㅣ’ to the noun ‘So·소’ which means ‘deep water’. The rear part ‘Byora·’ which can be referred to ‘Byora*벼’ means a stoney road along the riverbank. ‘Yeoncheon(淵遷)’ and ‘Geumcheon(金遷)’ are the sino-korean toponym words based on the native toponym word ‘Soybyora(·쇠·)’. ‘Yeon淵’ of ‘Yeoncheon(淵遷)’ faithfully represents the meaning of the native toponym word. While ‘Geum金’ of ‘Geumcheon(金遷)’ is a pseudo-character(假字) according to the principle of Chinese character borrowing notation. ‘Yeoncheon(淵遷)’ is temporarily used in the early Chosun Dinasty. However, ‘Geumcheon(金遷)’ has been widely used for a long period of time. It was used for the naming of administrative district and the formation of compound words such as ‘Geumcheon River金遷江’, ‘Geumcheon Warehouse金遷倉’ ‘Geumcheon Station金遷站’ and ‘Geumcheon Port金遷津’. Today we can find the traces of ‘Geumcheon(金遷)’ in the words such as ‘Gageummyeon(可金面)’ and ‘Geumcheon Gas Station(金遷注油所)’. However, the traces of ‘Yeoncheon(淵遷)’ can not be identified in any of the present toponym word. ‘Soykojee쇠꼬지’, ‘Soyyeoul쇠여울’, ‘Soil소일’ are the native toponym words that can be related to ‘Soybyora(·쇠·)’.
