This paper examines the phonological changes of rising phrasal tone which have occurred on several Korean South-east dialects of young people and the interactions between the change and flexional paradigms. Rising phrasal tone has changed to other phrasal tones on all researched dialects of young people; ḦHM0>HHM0 in the inland of Geongbuk, ḦM0>HM0(partly H2M0) in the east coat of Gyeongbuk, LMм0>MHM0 in the east and central Gyeongnam, and LM2м0>M2HM0 in the west Gyeongnam. It can be said that these changes are all due to constraints which ban long vowel or low pitch, which are phonologically marked. An analysis on languages in which vowel shortening is still progressing show us that declinable words with unchangeable rising phrasal tone has stronger tendency to keep long vowels in regard to declinable words with changeable rising phrasal tone. In the east and central Gyeongnam dialects, the phrases which had LMM once are pronounced as MHM or MMH at random, and the rate differs according to the paradigm which the phrase belongs to.
