A historical study on the lexical honorifics of ‘먹다’ type

‘먹다’류 어휘적 대우인 ‘먹-, 자시-, 잡수-’ 중에서 ‘잡수-’는 17세기에 새롭게 등장한다. ‘잡수-(<잡-)’는 청자 높임법의 3등급 체계가 4등급 체계로 변화하자 ‘쇼셔체’ 등급을 담당하는 대우 어휘로 보강된 것이다. ‘먹다’류 어휘적 대우의 사용 범위와 기능은 동시대의 청자 높임법 체계의 등급 및 계열과 밀접한 연관성을 맺는다. 즉 청자 높임법의 변천은 ‘먹다’류 어휘적 대우의 끊임없는 변천을 가져왔으며, 그 결과로 ‘먹-, 자-, 자시-, 잡-’의 어휘적 대우 체계가 이루어진 것이다. 15세기에는 ‘먹다’류 어휘적 대우가 ‘*좌-’와 ‘먹-’의 형태소만을 보여 주나, 17세기 국어에서는 ‘먹-, 자-, 잡-’의 형태소가 ‘먹다’류 어휘적 대우를 형성한다.
