본 연구는 부산 지명 총람, 한국향토문화전자대전 등에 나타나 있는 부산 지명의 오류를 수정하는데 목적이 있다. 그 중 부산 사상구 괘법동의 어원에 대해 검토하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, ‘괘법’은 ‘괘내[掛內]+창법[倉法]’에서 연유한 지명이다. 그러나 『부산향토문화전자대전』에서는 창법의 표기를 ‘昌法’으로 하였으나 이는 오류로 확인된다. 둘째, ‘괘내[掛內]’의 연원은 종전에 ‘개[海]+내[川]’ 혹은 ‘괘[깃발을 걸다. 掛]+내[마을]’로 해석하였으나 올바른 연원은 ‘고[庫]+내[內]’로 확인이 되었다. 그 이유로 기존의 지명에 나타난 ‘괘’는 ‘고[庫]’와 ‘골[谷]’에서 변화한 형태로 나타나는 것을 확인하였다. 특히 ‘골[谷]’ 형태가 ‘ㄹ’이 탈락하여 ‘고’로 나타나기 때문에 ‘고’는 ‘골’과 ‘창고’의 두 형태 중에 하나가 된다. ‘고’는 후대에 ‘괴’로 나타나고 이것이 다시 ‘괘’로 고정된다. 이 지역에는 구휼을 위해 설치한 ‘사창’이 있었기 때문에 ‘고[庫]’에서 ‘괘’로 나타난 것으로 확인하였다. 또, 창법과 괘법, 괘내 등을 동일한 지명으로 부르고 있다는 점, 창[倉]을 중심으로 동괘와 서괘로 나누고 있다는 점 등이 그 근거로 제시되었다. 셋째, ‘창법’의 연원은 기존에 밝혀지지 않았으나 ‘창[倉]의 주변 마을’로 재구하였다. 그 이유로 ‘법’이 창이나 성을 방어할 목적으로 주변에 설치한 방벽을 의미하기 때문인데, 이 지역에서도 사창을 보호하기 위한 방벽이 있었고, 이 방벽의 주변 지역을 ‘법곡’ 등으로 불렀기 때문이었다. 결국, ‘괘법(掛法)’은 창의 안쪽 마을인 ‘괘내’와 창의 바깥 마을인 ‘창법’으로 이루어진 마을인 것이다.

This study begin as reflecting the contents registered in 『The Encyclopedia of Busan Place Names』(Busan jimeong chongram), 『The Encyclopedia of Korean Local Culture』(Busan hyangto munhwa jeonja daejeon). Among them were reviewed for the origin of Busan Sasang-gu Gwaebeop[掛法]-dong. The results are as follows. 1) ‘Gwebeop’ is analyzed such as ‘Gwenae[掛內]+Changbeop[倉法]’. However, the 『The Encyclopedia of Korean Local Culture』(Busan hyangto munhwa jeonja daejeon) was the notion of Changbeop[倉法] to Changbeop[昌法]. This is confirmed as an error. 2) The etymology of ‘Gwenae[掛內]’ is not ‘Gae[sea, 海]+Nae[stream, 川]’ or ‘Gwe[hang flag 掛]+Nae[village, 村]’ but ‘Go[food shortages, 社倉]+Nae[the inside, 內]’. The First reason is that there was a food shortages for people in the village. To the next, We called the ‘Gwenae’ and ‘Changbeop’, ‘Gwaebeop’ in the same place name. And The village is divided into ‘Donggwe’ and ‘Seogwe’ around the ‘food shortages[社倉]’. 3) The etymology of ‘Changbeop’ did not clear this was interpreted as a ‘Near the village of food shortages[社倉]’. The reason is that ‘Beop [barriers]’ to mean the one installed on the wall around the castle for the purpose of defending the castle or ‘food shortages[社倉]’. After all, ‘Gwaebeop(掛法)’ was a village made of combined inner town of food shortages [Gwaenae] and around town of food shortages[Changbeop]
