A Rhetorical Argumentation of the Beelzeboul Controversy Dae-Hun Cho(Jeonju University) This study investigates a rhetorical argumentation in the controversy of Beelzeboul(Mk 3:20-35). For this aim, this article avoids traditional approaches and studies Jesus’ chreia in the light of ancient rhetoric. The writer shows the use of rhetorical technics by the scribes and Jesus. The accusation of opponents reflects OT and Jewish arguments, but Jesus’ refutation extends Christology through chreia, which emphasizes on his identity and salvation. In the Beelzeboul controversy, various ways of rhetorical technic are used, and Christological meaning is implied by a demonstrative chreia.
