본고는 17세기 전반 한문소설의 지형을 살펴보고 그 지향과 의의를 밝히는 데 목적이 있다. 17세기 전반에는 초기 소설사의 주류로 명맥을 이어온 전기소설이 발전적으로 변모하는 모습을 보이며 절정기를 맞이하였다. 그러나 한편으로는 전기소설 본연의 특성이 시대적 요구에 부응하지 못하여 점차적으로 쇠퇴하는 모습을 보이고 있다. 그리고 17세기에 새로이 등장한 전계소설이 전기소설과 영향관계를 맺으며 소설사에 부상하게 되었다. 17세기 전반 한문소설에 대한 기존의 논의들은 유형별 변모의 양상만을 단면적으로 살피거나 혹은 개별 작품론을 중심으로 진행되어, 17세기 한문소설사의 지형을 제대로 보여주지 못한 것으로 판단하였다. 본고는 17세기 전반 한문소설에 나타난 전기소설과 전계소설의 계승ㆍ변모ㆍ교섭 양상이 17세기 사회ㆍ역사적 측면과 매우 밀접한 관련을 맺고 있다고 보고, 작품에 나타난 작가의 현실인식과 창작의도 등을 살핌으로써 이 시기 한문소설이 가지고 있는 가치를 재평가하고자 한다. 본고의 직접적인 대상은 임란 이후 17세기 전반에 창작된 한문소설로 작자가 명확하게 알려진 <주생전>ㆍ<최척전>ㆍ<유연전>ㆍ<남궁선생전>ㆍ<강로전>ㆍ<안상서전> 등 이다. 이 작품들은 전대의 작품들에서 축적된 소설사적 역량을 토대로 각각 양식 내부의 변모와 새로운 양식의 탄생을 가져오게 되었으며, 후대 소설의 시대를 발현시키는 교량적 역할을 하였다고 여겨진다. 따라서 17세기 전반 한문소설 내ㆍ외부의 변모와 교섭에 초점을 맞추어 작품을 분석하고 그 결과를 해석하고자 하는 이 논문은 방대하지만 산재되어 있는 기존의 연구 성과를 종합ㆍ심화하여 이 분야의 연구를 한 걸음 진척시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
The intent of this thesis is to discuss and shed light on the literary features and meaning of Sino-Korean Novels wri -tten in the first half of the 17th century. The research was done focusing individually on Jeonkisoseol, the main current of pre to mid 17th century Sin-Korean Novel history, and th -e new appearance of Jeongyesoseol, during the 17th century Although a number of studies have been done on Jeonkisose -ol and Jeongyesoseol, the main patterns of literary work at this time, it seems as though something is lacking, in that t -hey don’t properly show the landscape of early 17th century Sino-Korean literature.I propose that early 17th century Sino -Korean novels have a close relationship with social and hist -orical aspects of the period, such as variable succession, tra -nsfiguration, and negotiation customs. Hence, I chose to re -evaluate the value of Sino-Korean novels by closely observ -ing the author’s recognition of reality and motive in their works. The novels analyzed in this thesis include <Joosengjeon> <Choicheokjeon><Yuyeonjeon><Namgoongsunsaengjeon><Ganlojeon><Ansangseojeon> which were written in the early 17th century after the invasion, and known for their distinct authors. These works of literature are considered to form a bridge, highlighting the inner changes of each genre eventua -lly leading to the birth of a new genre later in the history of Sino-Korean novels. In this regard, this thesis strives to analyze the results caused by the inner and outer transfigura -tion of Sino-Korean novels, including negotiation customs, and advance this field of study one more step in the directi -on of true understanding.
