Jeon, Ju-Hee. 2008. A study on gift relationship as a motif and ritual relations appeared in narrative shaman songs -focused on the ‘Chasa- Bonpuree’ and ‘Chilsung-Bonpuree’-. Dongnam Journal of Korean Language & Literature 25. ‘Bonpuree’ as the narrative shaman song is a narrative thing showing the process of being a god from a man and component of religious rite. So the narrative of a text whould connote a regular relationship or contiguity corresponding with the nature and aim of the rite rather than exist independently of the ritual place. To investigate the organic relationship between a text and its context, this study firstly will analyze the narrative of the text, and focus on the motif of giving relationship which is shown repeatedly in the text as a motif promoting the narrative. The giving relationship in this study contains not only the exchange of the material values, but also the exchange of the abstract ones. Especially, this study will treat the ritual giving relationship as the most important thing. And this study will reveal the fact that the ritual giving relationship shows close connection with the rite performed in the spot of ‘Gut’ and the aim of rite in the text almost correspond with the aim in the context. Through these works, we can know the followings. A duty giving shown repeatedly in the ‘Chasa-Bonpuree’ means the extension of somebody's life and making the border of life and death clear. A fortune and misfortune giving shown repeatedly in the ‘Chilsung-Bonpuree’ means revelation of the power of ‘God of Snake’ for being respected by the people and an act of process satisfying people's desire for wealth. To represent these points clearly, Jeju island's shaman songs were taken for research object, because the shaman rites still prevail in Jeju island.
