본고에서 필자는 충청도 앉은굿을 대상으로 강신무 세습무 유형론의 유의미성을 점검했다. 여기에는 충청도 앉은굿에 대한 정당한 평가와 충청도 앉은굿을 포괄하는 새로운 강신무 세습무 유형론 또는 새로운 무속적 유형론의 정립이라는 목적이 함축되어있다. 논의 결과, 충청도 앉은굿에는 강신무 세습무 유형론의 틀로는 설명하지 못하는 양상들이 나타나고 있음을 확인했다. ‘비강신 비가계 세습 유형의 존재’, ‘독특한 신격의 존재와 인식’, ‘춤이 거의 없으며 경의 구송이라는 연행 방식’, ‘직접적이고 주술적인 축귀 방식의 재현’ 등이 그 실제 예이다. 더불어 상호 대립적이고 배타적으로 인식된 강신무 세습무 유형론의 대립 항목간의 결합과 혼재 현상이 충청도 앉은굿에 나타난다. ‘강신의 가계 세습’, ‘영적 세습’, ‘비강신법사에게 보이는 강신무들의 뚜렷한 사승관계’, ‘의식과 절차를 중요시하면서 주술성과 의례성을 강조’ 등이 나타나는 것이다. 충청도 앉은굿에서 나타나는 이러한 양상은 ‘강신무 계열체의 재정립’, ‘세습무 계열체의 재정립’, ‘대립항목 간의 상호 결합 가능성 인정’, ‘앉은굿의 독특함을 포괄할 수 있는 체계의 정립’ 등의 문제를 우리에게 제시한다. 이에 필자는 그 해결을 위한 첫 걸음으로 ‘충청도 앉은굿을 무속 연구의 본령에 위치지우는 일’과 ‘강신무 세습무 유형론의 전면적인 수정 작업’을 제안했다.

This article intends to a critical examination of Gangsinmu(possessed shamans)-Saeseupmu(hereditary shamans) typology. For this critical examination, the subject of study is Chungchong-do Aneungut. Through this study, this article aims to have a proper appreciation of Chungchong-do Aneungut and a new establish of Gangsinmu - Saeseupmu typology or shamanistic typology which include Chungchong-do Aneungut. First, this article shows that Gangsinmu - Saeseupmu typology don't explain unique aspects of Chungchong-do Aneungut. And this article shows that items of Gangsinmu - Saeseupmu typology which were perceived mutual opposition, exclusive are combined and confused on Chungchong-do Aneungut. These characters of Chungchong-do Aneungut institute issues which are 'reestablish of Gangsinmu paradigmatic corpus', 'reestablish of Saeseupmu paradigmatic corpus', 'mutual combine of oppositional items', 'establish of system which include unique characters of Chungchong-do Aneungut'. Thereupon this article suggest ‘make Chungchong-do Aneungut situated on the main subject of shamanism study' and 'overall revision of Gangsinmu - Saeseupmu typology'.
