본 논문은 세종시 연기 지역의 백제 지명 ‘두잉지(豆仍只)’의 어의와 어형을 파악하는 데 연구의 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 2장에서는 이 지역에 전하는 ‘두렁이재’ 유래설을 주로 국어학적 시각에서 비판적으로 검토하였다. 3장에서는 『삼국사기』 지리지에 수록된 백제 지명들과의 비교 및 관련 선행 연구들에 대한 검토를 중심으로 ‘두잉지’의 어의와 어형을 논의하였다. 그 결과는 다음과 같다. (1) 어두 지명소인 ‘두(豆)’는 백제 수사 ‘二’의 관형적 용법으로 판단하여 ‘두’의 음독자로 이해하였다. (2) 어중 지명소인 ‘잉(仍)’은 지명 표기에서 두 가지 방식의 음독자로 쓰인 것을 확인하고, 그 가운데 ‘내(川)’를 의미하는 것으로 이해하여 ‘나리/나이’로 읽었다. (3) 어미 지명소인 ‘지(只)’를 ‘城’이나 특정한 의미로 해석하는 논의들을 비판하고 장소에 대한 보편적인 의미 ‘터, 곳’ 등의 기능을 하는 지명 접미사로 이해하였다. 그리고 이 결과를 종합하고 ‘두잉지’의 수식구조와 해당 지역의 지형을 고려해 ‘두 내가 합쳐지는 터(마을)’로 어의를 파악하였으며, 그 독법을 ‘두나리기/두나이기’로 추정하였다.
The aim of this paper is to research on ‘Duingji(豆仍只)’, the Ancient Place Names of Yeongi(燕岐) area in Sejong-City. So it is researched on the meaning and word form of ‘Duingji’ and the way of borrowing Chinese character. This paper acquires a meaning of understanding ancient Korean language and human geography of Sejong-City. In order to achieve this purpose, it was processed of a comparative studying on other place names in 『Samguksagi(三國史記)』, and of reviewing of preceding researches, each of a place name’s components. As a result, (1) the first component ‘Du(豆)’ is borrowed a sound of ‘du’ which is number 2 of Baekje(百濟) dynasty, and the word form of it is ‘du’ which is used for adnominal function; (2) the second component ‘ing’ is borrowed the sound of ‘nɛ(川)’ which means river, and the word form of it is ‘nari or nai’; (3) the last component ‘ji’ is a suffix for place name which means general space, and the word form of it is ‘ki’. Finally, the meaning of ‘Duingji(豆仍只)’ is a place(or village) which two rivers is coalesced, and the word form of it is ‘Dunarigi’ or ‘Dunaigi’.
