본 논문은 다음의 몇 가지를 기본적인 전제로 한다. 첫째, 여성주의 논의 안에서 음양론을 차이의 철학으로 정립시키고자 한다. 둘째, 음양 개념이 차이가 아니라 차별, 우열의 관점으로 해석되고 실체화되어 왔음을 비판함으로써 음양을 차이의 철학으로 구축할 형이상학적 근거를 마련하고자 한다. 셋째, 차이를 기반으로 하면서도 만남을 염두에 두는 음양론적 차이의 철학을 구성하고자 한다. 이러한 기본 전제를 논의하기 위해 본 논문은 음양론에 ‘차이－사이(관계짓기)’ 즉 차이를 전제로 한 ‘사이’의 차원을 들여온다. 차이-사이라는 차원을 도입하는 것은 음양 개념을 복수성의 것으로 이해하고자 하기 위함이다. 이는 우리로 하여금 음양 이론의 이분법적 이해를 깨는 데 유용한 전략을 마련하도록 도움을 주며, 궁극적으로 음양 이론에 대한 이해의 지평을 확대시키는 방법이 된다고 생각하기 때문이다. 음과 양으로 사물을 구별하는 것은 세상과 사물을 이분법적으로 해석하는 결과를 낳는 경향을 낳는다. 하지만 차이－사이의 개념을 발견하는 방법은 이 두 가지 개념 사이에 많은 것들이 존재한다는 사실을 보여 준다. ‘차이－사이’의 이론으로서의 음양론은 음과 양이라는 개념 사이에 존재하는 모호함을 드러내고 발전시키기 때문이다. 인간을 포함한 사물은 두 가지 속성으로만 구분되지 않으며, 단지 음양을 합한 것도 아니다. 그것은 음과 양 그리고 그 사이에 존재하는 수많은 차이 속에서 이루어진다.

So, the introduction of Difference-Between allows us to constitute a theory of plurality with the concept of Yin Yang. This strategy may be useful to break with this dichotomic understanding of Yin Yang, to broaden our horizon about the theory of Yin Yang. The distinction between Yin Yang tends to result in a dichotomic interpretation of things and the world. However, the notion of Difference-Between implies that there exist many things between these two opposite terms. That is, the principles of the world lie not only in Yin Yang, nor in but also between the two concepts.
