<이생규장전>은 가상적 상황이 이어지는 연쇄적 구성 형식을 지닌다. 작품의 서두에 설정된 남주인공 이생의 규장은 현실 세계에서는 실현 불가능한 최랑과의 결연을 꿈꾸는 이생의 소망이 투영된 환상으로서, 이생이 처한 질곡적 상황을 부각시키는 기능을 담당한다. 그리고, 그것을 전제로 해서 이생과 최랑의 밀회라는 환상적 사건이 설정되고, 이들의 밀회를 통해서 요조숙녀 최랑이 처한 질곡적 상황이 공개된다. 또, 밀회를 전제로 해서 이생과 최랑의 결연이 설정되는데, 이러한 결혼 과정을 통해서 혼전에 순결을 잃은 여인의 질곡적 상황이 부각된다. 마지막으로 결혼을 전제로 해서 최랑의 죽음이 나타는데, 최랑의 죽음을 통해서 목숨과 절의 양자의 선택을 강요받는 결혼한 여인들의 절의 문제가 부각되는 것이다. 그런데, 이러한 구성의 전제가 되는 “밀회”는 현실 세계에서는 실현되기 어려운 비현실적 사건이라 할 수 있다. 그렇기 때문에 작가는 이 대목을 형상화하면서 여러 가지 형상적 기법을 동원하여 이들의 밀회가 환상임을 암시하면서, 이러한 환상적 사건을 통해 현실세계에서 이룰 수 없는 이생과 최랑의 욕망을 해소시키는 한편, 당위적인 만남을 가로막은 현실 질서의 질곡성, 그리고 당대의 유가적 이념의 질곡 때문에 표면화하기 어려운 요조숙녀 최랑의 내밀한 욕망을 가시적 형태로 구체화 한다.
The plot of <The life of Peeping Lee-saeng> seems like the sequence of imaginary events. The scene in which Lee-saeng peeps in the fence of Miss Choi-rang`s house is fantastic. It is composed of the imagination of Lee-sange`s to want to marry with Choi-rang. He can not marry her so he is in lower station than Choi-rang in real world. On the basis of this fantastic peeping, he can meet with choi-rang fantastically. And he knew that though choi-rang is virtuous she want to meet her lover freely. On the basis of this fantastic meetings Lee-saeng could mary Choi-rang. Because Choi-rang must marry Lee-saeng, as she lost purity of virgin before marriage. With that fantastic marriage Lee-saeng knows the absurdity of the sexual discrimination. After marriage they live happy. But they cope with war. And Mrs lee became be killed, because she resist to keep the sexual purity as wife. After her death then her ghost appear, and tells that she is so resentful. With her confessions Lee-saeng knows absurdity of the sexual discrimination. As we saw, the peeping of Lee-saeng is the basis of the plot of <The life of Peeping Lee-saeng>. So in this report I analysed the aspects of fantastics in the scene of peeping and meetings of that hero and heroine.
