The purpose of this study is to analyze Korean textbook for childrenfrom multi-cultural families and provide direction of Korean textbookdevelopment. For this study, the author made 4 criteria of analysisthrough analyzing the purposes of korean education for children frommulti-cultural families and advanced researches. The 4 criteria ofanalysis include learner-centered, improvement of communicativecompetence, improvement of CALP(Cognitive Academic LanguageProficiency), reflection of intercultural perspective. This study analyzed2007, 2009, 2012 korean textbooks published from Seoul office ofeducation. The analysis shows that 2007, 2009 korean textbooks focus onintroducing the vocabulary with school life and school regulations. However, 2012 korean textbook focuses on the improvement ofcommunicative competence and considers the characteristic of learnersand tries to reflect intercultural perspective. It is possible to know thatKorean textbook for children from multi-cultural families haveprogressed considering communicative competence. The problem is thatthere are no textbooks which pay attention to CALP seriously. Through the analysis, it is necessary to consider very carefully thefollowing points to develope Korean textbooks. Firstly, we have to moreconcern learners to know what kind of situation they often meet and what kind of practice they like. And Korean textbook includes variousschool life and daily life considering learners who are students. Secondly, we have to find out proper practices to improve communica-tive competence and focus more on the reading and writing. Lastly, Inthe textbook, we have to reflect CALP and intercultural perspectiveactively.
