본 연구는 기사 생성 과정에 있어 취재원으로서 PR실무자들과 언론기자들 간의 상호이해 요소들에 대한 기자와 PR실무자 상호 간 상호지향성을 알아보고, 더불어 이러한요소들에 대한 언론기자들과 PR실무자들의 다원적 무지 현상이 발생하는가에 관해 조사하였다. 연구 결과는 기자들이 기사 생성과정에서 사실성과 공정성에 입각한 언론 가치를 지향하는 반면, PR실무자는 기사 생성과정을 기자들과 우호적인 관계를 통해 그들이 원하는 기사를 배포하기 위한 전략 커뮤니케이션으로 이해하고 있었다. 또한 기자들은 기사 보도 작성에 PR실무자들이 여러 면에서 자유롭지 못하다고 생각하는 반면PR실무자들은 기자들이 본인들보다 보도자유를 누리고 있다고 생각하고 있었다. 그러나 기자들은 스스로 기사 작성 및 배포과정에서 여러 제약으로부터 자유롭지 못하다고생각하고 있었다. 더불어 기자들은 기사 생성 과정에 본인들이 PR실무자에 의존적이라고 PR실무자들이 생각하고 있으나 실제로는 그렇지 않다고 생각하였고, PR실무자들은 기자들이 사실 및 공정보도에 충실하다고 스스로를 과대평가하고 PR실무자들의노력을 과소평가하고 있다고 추측하고 있었다. 다원적 무지 현상 분석에서는 기자들은언론 산업 환경이 기사작성에 영향을 미칠 것이라는 사회 여론과 그들이 PR실무자들을 배려하지 않을 것이라는 사회 여론에 부담을 느끼고 있었고, PR실무자 역시 기사 배포과정에서 본인들의 노력이 사회적으로 과소평가될 것이라는 피해의식을 가지고 있었다.
Appling co-orientation, false consensus and false conflict on any social issues, this study examines public relations practitioners and journalists' mutual understandings in the source-reporter relationship. The result of this study showed that journalists still regard news making processes through the source-reporter relationship as the realization of journalistic values based on fairness and fact finding, whereas public relations practitioners think that news making processes through the source-reporter relationship are strategical communication activities for new publicities which they want to be reported. The result also revealed that, while journalists are reporting, public relations practitioners believe journalists feel free from any social restriction more than themselves. But, journalists think they are facing many social restrictions during news making. The result of this study revealed false consensus and conflict that journalists overestimate social opinion which they affect diverse social and structural pressures and social biases which they treat public relations practitioners' efforts lightly. In the same sense, public relations practitioners have false conflict that public underestimate their efforts in new making. Finally, the detailed implications of this study were discussed.
