이 연구에서는 초, 중, 고 지적장애 청소년들이 가장 알고 싶어하는 성교육 요구를 파악하고, 이들이 교내외생활에서 경험하는 성행동에 있어 초, 중, 고 집단간에 어떤 차이가 있는지를 비교하였다. 이를 위해 전국의 지적장애 특수학교에 근무하는 초, 중, 고등학교 교사 395명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 주요 결과를 살펴보면, 첫째, 지적장애 청소년들이 가장 알고자 하는 성교육 내용은 이성친구사귀기, 성기관련내용, 신체변화에 관한 것이고, 알고자 하는 세부내용에서 초, 중, 고 집단간에 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 지적장애 청소년들이 교내에서 자주 보이는 성행동 중 이들은 타인만지기/껴안기, 사적장소에서 자위행위하기, 공적장소에서 자위행위하기를 가장 많이 하는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 지적장애 청소년들이 일상생활에서 경험하는 성행동(이성교제, 자위행위, 성관계, 성폭력피해, 성폭력가해, 음란물이용) 중에서는 자위행위에 대한 경험이 가장 많았고, 다음으로 이성교제 경험이 많았다. 또한 각 성행동에 대한 경험비율과 경험의 세부내용에서 초, 중, 고 집단간 주목할 만한 차이가 나타났다. 이 연구의 결과를 지적장애 청소년을 대상으로 한 기존결과와 일반학생을 대상으로 한 결과들과 비교분석하였고, 결과가 보여주는 시사점과 의미 등을 논의하였다.
The present study tried to explore and compare the desiring contents of sexual education, and characteristics of sexual behaviors among mentally retarded elementary, middle, and high school students. Total three-hundred-ninety-five teachers of mentally retarded schools in nationwide areas were surveyed on the contents of sexual education what mentally retarded students want to know, and main and specific characteristics of sexual behaviors what the students show daily. Results showed that mentally retarded students most wanted to know about informations on friendship with boy/girl friends, on sexual organs, and on physical changes. Second, major behaviors that mentally retarded students most frequently show in daily life were touching and hugging others, and masturbation both in private and public areas. Third, analyses on characteristics of each specific sexual behavior showed that 28.6% of total students had boy/girl friends, 65.2% experienced masturbation, 6.1% experienced sexual abuse as victims, 4.6% experienced sexual abuse as offenders, 10.9% experienced pornographic materials. In addition, results showed that regarding on the above findings there were notable differences among elementary, middle, and high school student groups. Last, the results of present study and results revealed by non-mentally-retarded counterparts were compared, and implications and contents of sexual education for mentally retarded adolescents were discussed.
