The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of story delivery media types and gender difference on young children's emergent literacy. A total of 90 children(45 boys, 45 girls), with an average age of 4 years, were selected and randomly assigned to the following groups:print picture story book group(30), VTR picture story book group(30), and computer picture story book group(30). The stories used for this study were as follow 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar', 'Snow man', 'Grandpa', 'Frederick', 'Swimmy', 'Papa Please Get the Moon for me', 'Der Klein Eisbar', 'Peter Rabbit'. A posttest experimental group design was used to compare young children's story element measures and sentence comprehension over 6-week period. The collected data were analyzed by using two-way ANOVA. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. The young children's ability in story element measures were different by story delivery media types. The main effect analysis of story element measures data by ANOVA showed a statistically significant difference between the 3 groups [F(2, 84)= 5.960, p=.004]. The computer picture story book group was more effective for increasing young children's ability in story element measures than the VTR picture story book group(p<.05). The young children's ability in story element measures were not different by gender in relation to different story delivery media types. 2. The young children's ability in sentence comprehension were not different by story delivery media types. The young children's ability in sentence comprehension were not different by gender in relation to different story delivery media types.
