Screen translation is carried out by the conveying meaning system through multiplex channels. Therefore screen translation needs some translating methods to overcome the spatio-temporal restrictions and to lighten the cognitive load of the audience. The purpose of this research is to explore the effective principles and strategies for translating movies and TV dramas from English into Korean. Through the case study on English-Korean screen translation, three principles – suitability, readability, economy - are suggested and each principle includes some strategies. Upon the suitability principle, screen translation materials must be suitably translated (ⅰ) for the speaker’s / listener’s social factors and (ⅱ) for the context of dialogue and (ⅲ) for the TL culture. And upon the readability principle, screen translation materials must be readably translated into the natural conversational style and must be readably translated changing the forms or contents of dialogue properly. And upon the economy principle, screen translation materials must be economically translated into the concise conversational style and must be economically translated condensing the forms and contexts of dialogue properly. In addition to this, the cases to be duly considered about the meaning and the sound are introduced as exceptional ones.
