관광에 관한 관심의 증대로 해외여행이나 국내여행에 있어 여행객 들의 안전에 대한 의식이 더욱 중요하게 여겨지고 있다. 우리가 알듯 이 911사건, 사스(SARS), 이라크전쟁 등 최근에 발생한 사건들은 관광 산업에 중요한 영향을 미치고 있다. 이 연구에서는 관광객의 범죄에 대한 인식이 관광지 선택에 미치는 영향을 분석해 본다. 실증적 연구 를 위해 2007년 하계 관광시즌에 속초해수욕장과 설악산을 방문한 여 행객을 대상으로 설문조사를 하여 804부를 분석하였다. 분석결과를 보 면, 범죄에 대한 두려움과 교통사고 문제는 지속적으로 자치단체에서 고려해야할 분야이며, 관광경찰제도 도입 등을 통해 관광지 안전 이미 지를 구축하는 것이 필요하다.

As the globalization process accelerates and the volume of tourism markets increase, it has become ever more important to understand international and domestic travelers with regard to their safety perceptions. As we know, recently occurred incidents like the 911 horrific event, SARS, IRAQ war made depression of tourists' safety is very important factors in tourism industry. So, the purpose of the study was to analyze the perception of tourists' safety, especially visited in Sokcho. For this empirical study, a total of 804 valid samples were collected in the Sokcho Beach and Soerak Mt. in July-August of 2007. The study provided differences of safety perceptions among demographical characteristics of tourists. According to the research findings, tourists' whose visited in Sokcho has positive safety perception, but fear of crime and car accidents will be more considered factors in Sokcho, and also tour police system is needed for tourists' psychological safety, guide and offering informations.
