길례(吉禮), 가례(嘉禮), 군례(軍禮), 흉례(凶禮) 그리고 빈례(賓禮)를 오례(五禮)라 하는데 그 중 빈례는 외국에서 사신이 당도하였을 때 그들을 영접하는 일련의 의식과 절차를 정한 것이다. 보통 외국에서 사신이 당도하면 조서를 전달하거나 표문을 올리는 등의 의식을 궁정에서 치렀다. 모든 의식절차가 끝난 뒤에는 사신을 위로하는 연회가 베풀어졌다. 이때에는 다양한 궁중정재를 비롯해 가무백희가 연행되었다. 『고려도경』에는 송 사신이 중국에서부터 개경까지 오는 사행로(使行路)와각 객관에서 이루어진 영접절차 그리고 궁중에서 수조의식이 잘 기록되어 있어 당시 고려의 중국사신영접이 어떠했는지 알 수 있다. 사신의 행렬의식과 국왕이 사신을 영접하러 나가는 행차도 살펴보았다. 비교 결과 송 사신 영접의례는 명 사신 영접의례로 계승되었으며 북조사신 영접의례와는 차이가 있었다. 그리고 당시 연행되었던 연희는 향악정재인 처용무를 비롯해 헌선도, 포구락, 학연화대설무, 답사행가무 등의 정재와 산악백희인 화산희, 솟대타기, 사선악부, 용봉상마거선, 격구희 등 다양했다. 그리고 이러한 연희를 연행했던 사람들은 대악서, 관현방, 경시사, 교방에 소속된 여기들이며 여기들은 관비, 무녀 중에서 가려 뽑기도 했다. 이들은 국가 행사마다 동원되어 다양한 전통연희를 공연하였다.
The receptional ceremonial proprieties of envoys from China is a regulation for receiving imperial message from China, including banquets for envoys in the royal court. Then, magnificent banquet follows the ceremony, in which various performances such as music instrument plays, Royal Court Dance(宮中呈才), and Sanakbaekhee(山樂百戱) were practiced. In Goryodogyung(高麗圖經), the sea route from Song dynasty to Goryo was well recoded as well as the process and ceremony for envoy reception in guest houses in islands on the western sea route and the royal court. In addition, the magnificent procession of envoys were held from the suburb of GaeGyoung, the capital of Goryo, to the palace. As a result of comparing with History of Goryo(高麗史), the process of the receptional ceremony for envoys of Song dynasty and Ming Dynasty was almost same, so it can be inferred that the receptional ceremonial proprieties for envoys of Song dynasty were succeeded to continuously. However, it differed considerably from the process for Northern dynasties such as Jin dynasty(金, 1115-1234) and Liao dynasty(遼, 907-1125). At the receptional ceremony, various performances were presented. With indigenous music and performance as formal court music including Chuyongmu(處容舞) and Hakyunhwadaesulmu(鶴蓮花臺設舞), Hunsundo(獻仙桃), Pogurak(抛毬樂) and Dabsahanggamu(踏沙行歌舞) were also played. As Sanakbaekhee, Hwasanhee(火山戲), Sotdaetagi(솟대타기), Sasunakbu(四仙樂府), Yongbongsangmagusun(龍鳳象馬車船), Gyukguhee(擊毬戱) were performed as well at royal banquet for Chinese envoys receptions. Performers are mainly women as government’s legal entertainers who belonged to Daeakseo(大樂署), Gwanhyunbang(管絃坊), Gyungsisa(京市司) and Gyobang(敎坊). They always took part in court’s occasions and performed various performances.
