The modernized course of oriental people is to catch up with other nationalities,it also is a process of accepting the advantageous culture, the commercial culture substituting the traditional culture, which makes the two contradictory as well as integrating. In respect to the individual, the process is realized by a certain kind of loss of the meaning of existence which manifested in Seoul's urban novels in the history of literature.The beginning of modernization in Shanghai is nearly 30 years later than that in Seoul, the urban culture’s accumulation just starts without any reliable criterion. Therefore, Chinese contemporary literature historically undertakes the task of laying a solid foundation of urban literature.
