이 글은 해방 이후 1960년대 초까지 이뤄진 여성의복 생활의 변화과정과 그 과정에서 일어난 논의를 포스트식민주의적 정체성의 정치라는 관점에서 읽는다. 해방 이후 미국 GI 문화가 확산되는 한편 국가엘리트의 의복통제 시도가 성공하지 못하면서 옛 복식을 창의적으로 개량하여 젊은 여성의 생활복으로 확산시킨 수십년의 노력은 중단되었고, 한복의 전통화와 예복화가 진행되었으며, 점차 양장이 생활복으로 전일화되었다. 의복사치와 한복개량, 간소복 문제로 대표되는 이 시기 의복 논란은 식민지시대 여성에게 투영되었던 전통과 근대, 전통의 창안과 고착이라는 문제가 해방 이후에도 반복적으로 재생산되는 모습을 보여준다.
This paper reads postcoloinial identity politics of social debates related to changes in women’s clothes. American GI culture was spread and the control of clothes by state－elites was unsuccessful in 1950’s to 1960’s. As a result, original attempts and efforts of clothes reform, which made change young women everyday dress, interrupted, old clothes have been traditionalized and formalized and western style dress has been dominated.
