This study has two focuses: one is on the category of text in literature studies, the other is on the recontextualization of translated novels. It is reconsideration or reflection about some methodologies of Chinese literature studies in Korea. Its object is Shanghai Baby(上海寶貝), the novel which has touched off some arguments about sexual description in Chinese contemporary literature. At first, it has criticized traditional methodology for reading this novel, a series of attempt categorizing to Shanghai narrative. It includes arbitrariness in interpreting text and the original text centrism. It has studied the phenomenon what Shanghai Baby has been destributed in Korea: firstly, it has searched about extension of text, material extension in the process of translation-publication-production in Korea; secondary, it has searched about aspect of acceptance in Korea. As a result, Shanghai Baby has been focused on sexual discourse of woman author excessively, has brought some difficulties in reading the meaning of the text as literature own.
