The 21stcentury sees full bloom of the genres of children's literature and mythology. Currently, maturity of humanistic imagination frequently looks forits origin from mythology. Children's literature finds its motive power of blooming in the fact that every home assigns absolute values to its children. Children's literature and mythology can be taken to share their origin, to the effect that mythology has many elements of children's literature in it while the children's literature has many examples based on mythological ideas and imaginations. Every narration originates from mythology. Especially mythology, which enlightens the origin of the world, and children's literature, which devotes itself to the exploration of mythology and the source interact with each other. Children's literature and mythology are based on the exploration of the source. In the present society, which shows radical interruption of all traditions and conventions, it is natural to feel homesick about the source. The cultural base for the present society shows the properties of genre deconstruction, and interest in new genres deviating from traditional narrative themes and modes has been increasing. As a result of this, the majority of interest in literature consists in children's literature and mythology. To recapitulate, the genres of children's literature and mythology are overcoming numerous problems with the theory of tradition interruption, and stressing values of the source. This study aims at subdividing mythological aspects of the Western and Korean children's literature by thematic properties to expand their possibility of development. For this, this study takes its object to be the Western and Korean children's literature. As children's literature and mythology regard exploration of the source as their main task, this study has systemized mythological imagination in children's literature and the thematic approach to it.
