우리는 다문화 사회에서 산다. 예를 들어, 국제적이고 다문화적인 식당은 우리의 이웃에서도 세계화가 일어나고 있다는 것을 예시한다. 최근에 제정된 다문화관련법의 목적은 다문화가족 또는 한국에 거주하는 외국인인 구성원이 안정적인 가족생활을 영위할 수 있도록 함으로써 재한외국인 또는 다문화가족이 대한민국 사회에 적응하여 개인의 능력을 충분히 발휘할 수 있도록 하고, 대한민국 국민과 재한외국인이 서로를 이해하고 존중하는 사회환경을 만들어 대한민국의 발전과 사회통합에 이바지하고자 하는 것이다. 특히 결혼이민자는 대한민국 국민과 혼인한 적이 있거나 혼인관계에 있는 재한 외국인을 말한다. 이들에 대하여 국가 및 지방자치단체는 다문화관련법의 목적을 달성하기 위하여 재한외국인 또는 다문화가족에 대한 처우 등에 관한 정책의 수립 및 시행에 노력하여야할 것이다. 사회 현실에 나타난 다양한 모습의 문화를 수긍하는 것은 상당히 바람직하다. 그러나 실정법상에 나타난 목적과 다문화 또는 다문화가족이라는 개념에 대한 인식과 정책은 다소 다르게 판단하는 것 같다. 따라서 이 논문은 대한민국에서 다문화가족의 의의와 규범적 근거에 대하여 먼저 다루어 보고, 그것에 대한 몇 가지 정책적 개선방안을 검토해 보고자 한다.

The purpose of Multi-cultural related Act is to stipulate the basic provisions concerning Multi-cultural family and the treatment of foreigners in Korea; to help Multi-cultural family and foreigners in Korea to adjust themselves to the Korean society to reach their full potentials and to create a society where Koreans and Multi-cultural family and foreigners in Korea understand and respect each other with the aim of contributing to the development of Korea and the social integration. especially, The term "immigrant by marriage" means a non-ethnic Korean who used to have a marital relationship with a Korean national and who is in the middle of a marital relationship with a Korean national. A national, municipal, and local government shall make efforts in policy establishment and implementation for the treatment of Multi-cultural Family and foreigners in Korea with the aim of achieving the purpose of Multi-cultural related Act. so, This paper deal with The legal significance and normative grounds for Multi-cultural Family in Korea
