The main characters of sports films are lower class heroes. Lower class hero is one of the character type specified in “The Lives of Heroes” written by a renowned scholar in Korean Literature, Dongil Cho. This hero is born of “humble family, suffers all his life until the miserable death”. At the same time, upper class hero is born of “aristocratic family, fights through with great proficiency and achieves his goal in the end”. In the sports films, the characters have no benefit of noble family background and supernatural power, but look like real people. Despite harship, they eventually lead their lives into victory. The victory is achieved in two ways. One is the victory obtained through sports games as is featured in “A Barefoot Dream.” The other one is not the victory achieved through real game but through spiritual maturity, which motivates the heroes to start their lives all over again like a triumphant failure in “G-Love.” The two types of victory is well combined in “Crying Fist.”Sports films create new model of hero by weaving lower class hero in the narrative texture of upper class hero.
