이 연구는 민속문예학의 학문적 지형을 확인하는 것에 목적을 둔다. 아울러서 장차 바람직한 연구를 위해서 어떠한 지평을 확장하는가 하는 점을 논하기로 한다. 실증주의를 극복하고 민속문예학이 등장한 것은 매우 중요한 의미를 가진다. 앞으로의 연구를 위해서는 자료를 발굴하고, 비교연구를 하며, 동시에 학문의 용합과 복합을 위한 논의를 하는 정향점을 추구해야만 한다. 그런 점에서 이 연구는 중간적 논의를 한 것에 불과하다. 이 연구는 중간 보고서이다. 자료를 발굴하는 것은 학문의 영원한 숙제이다. 학문의 기초가 되는 자료 작업은 항상 지속되어야 한다. 그런 점에서 자료 작업의 충실성을 가지고 있어야 한다. 다음으로 비교 연구가 진행되는데 알려진 지역보다 알려지지 않은 지역의 자료에 의거하여 이것을 연구하는 것이 바람직하다. 알려지지 않은 지역이라고 함은 사라진 곳을 포함한 미개척지의 자료이다. 동시에 기왕에 알고있는 지역의 자료라고 할지라도 관점을 달리하여 연구하고 비교하는 작업이 요구된다. 다음으로 필요한 작업은 학문의 전공이 주는 장벽을 제거하고 이것을 확대하는 작업이 필요하다. 그렇게 하기 위해서 학문에서 필요한 융복합적 관점의 의식을 제고하는 작업이 필요하다. 한분야의 다양한 관점을 통해서 이를 확장하고 연구하는 것은 학문의 통합적 관점을 위해서 필요한 작업이라고 할 수가 있다. 이 점에서 연구의 입체적 관점은 새롭게 가능한 작업이 되는데, 학문의 융합과 복합적 관점이 새로운 연구의 지편을 열 수가 있을 것으로 보인다. 민속문예학은 과거의 학문일 수 없다. 독일학문의 전통에서 비롯된 것으로 필요한 여러 영역 가운데 영미학문 위주의 관점을 청산할 수가 있는 우리 학문의 중요한 동반자이다. 그런 점에서 민속문예학의 학문적 관점은 우리 민속학을 새롭게 할 수가 있다.
