조선조 후기 학인들은 동아시아 각국으로부터의 서적의 유입과 지식의 획득과 유통을 통해 문학과 문화에 대한 인식의 地平을 넓혔다. 이를 배경으로 思惟를 새롭게 전환하거나, 최신 學藝의 동향과 시대조류를 이해한 바 있다. 이 점에서 연행사행과 통신사행을 통한 서적의 유입과 유통, 조선조 학인들의 각국 학인들과의 교류는 청조와 에도막부의 文化의 가교역할을 하는 데 적지 않은 도움이 되었다. 본 논문은 漂海錄과 藝苑言, 그리고 倭漢三才圖會를 예로 들어 동아시아 각국의 서적이 일국의 시공간을 넘어 삼국에 널리 유통된 실상을 확인하고, 그 서적으로부터 당시에 획득한 지식과 정보의 구체적인 내용을 살펴보았다. 한편, 조선조 학인들도 다양한 각국의 異문화를 수용하고 이를 自己化함으로써 새로운 學知를 여는 데도 큰 역할을 하였던 셈이다. 특히 조선조 후기 학인들은 사행을 통하여 異문화의 정보와 지식을 습득하고, 습득한 신지식을 流通시킴으로써 사유를 전환시키는 데 一助한 바도 있다. 뿐만 아니라, 연행과 통신사행의 기록들은 학인들에게 일국적 시야를 넘어서는 지적인 공간을 제공함으로써, 조선조 후기 학인들은 시공간을 넘어 지적 대화를 하였고, 이러한 지적 대화는 기왕의 학술 권위와 가치를 해체하는데도 역할을 한 것으로 보인다.


By obtaining and circulating imported books and knowledge from East Asian countries, Korean intellectuals in the late Chosŏn Dynasty were able to extend their literary and cultural horizon. This new extended intellectual and culturallandscape was conducive for them to understand new contemporary trends of learning and art, and also to form a new frame of thoughts. The importation and circulation of books through the tributary missions to Qing China and the communication missions to Tokugawa Japan as well as the Korean intellectuals’ exchanges with their counterparts in those countries made a not a little contribution to the formation of a cultural bridge between Qing China and Tokugawa Japan. This paper discovers the trans-national circulation of books among three East Asian countries as shown in Pyohaerok (Records of shipwreck), Yewŏn chiŏn, and Oehan samjae hoedo, and also examines the knowledge and information contained these books. This indicates that many Chosŏn intellectuals were active in embracing varied cultural elements from abroad and using them to open new fields of knowledge. In particular, many Chosŏn diplomatic envoys played an important role in importing the new information and knowledge from foreign countries, and in circulation them at home, thus providing inspiration for new ways thinking. Moreover, the records on the missions to China and Japan provide an intellectual forum in which trans-national perspectives could be advanced, thus enriching intellectual discourse among contemporary Korean intellectuals, and eventually playing a part in dismantling the established scholarly authority and value.
