The purpose of this study was to conduct a narrative inquiry of the experiences of married early childhood teachers who were taking care of their families and working at the same time. The participants in this study were two married teachers working at a kindergarten in a metropolitan city. Data were gathered from November 2013 to January 2014, through eight interviews, their life graphs, journals, photographs, and letters. Field texts were analyzed using various qualitative methods(Clandinin & Connelly, 2000; Creswell, 2007) to construct their narratives about work-family balance. The research found that they freely chose to become a mother and a teacher, but they found it difficult to take on multiple roles of a teacher, a wife, and a mother. Despite such difficulties, they found both aspects of their lives rewarding and joyful, and believed that they needed to strike a balance between family and work. This realization became another meaningful starting point in their lives. Given these findings, it is suggested that married early childhood teachers should be aware of the significance and value of their roles as early childhood teachers and mothers to lead a well-balanced life. Further, it is suggested various forms of social support and environments that could help married early childhood teachers to maintain work-family should be necessary.
