이 논문은 조선 사신들의 연행록에 나타난 봉황산의 민족사 담론들을 수집하고 그 시문들을 조명해 본 것이다. 봉황산은 현재 중국 요녕성 봉황시에 위치하고 있다. 우리의 사신들의 행로는 이 봉황산을 거치게 되어 있고 이 주변에서 휴식을 하거나 유숙하였다. 그 틈을 이용하여 우리의 사신들은 아름다운 경관과 민족사의 파편들이 함께 펼쳐지는 봉황산을 답사하고 그 느낌을 시문 속에 형상화 하였다. 현재까지 발견된 시문만도 약 백여 편이 넘는다. 특히 이 기행 시문들의 의경 속에는 고대 우리 민족사의 시원을 담은 동명왕의 담론과 당태종과 양만춘의 전장고사를 비롯하여 여러 고대국가들의 민족문화의 흔적들이 풍부하게 녹아 있다. 조선 사신들의 연행록에 등장되는 봉황산의 의경 속에는 고대 우리 민족의 활약상에 대한 상세한 담론과 고대 우리강토의 연장선에서 그 광활한 무대를 그려내는 지리적 고증이 풍부하게 들어있으며 우리 민족사에 대한 자주적인 사상과 민족의 위상을 숭고하게 확대 고양하는 의미가 함의되어 있다. 조선 사신들이 남긴 시문 중 봉황산에 대한 민족사 담론에는 고대 동북아시아의 신화와 전설이 풍부하게 녹아있고 우리 고대사 이야기가 풍성하게 전개되고 있었다. 조선 사신들이 봉황산을 조명하고 기록한 기행문학은 우리 민족문화의 보고요, 우리 고대사의 심연이었다.
