The purpose of this study is to find major factors of consultant’s competencies in order to maximize management consulting performance in the environment of moderate effects of the characteristics of management consulting firm and the characteristics of client company. As a result of study, the task competency of management consultant gives significant positive effect on both consulting performance variables. Common competency give significant effect on consulting project completion. Secondly, reputation of consulting firm shows no moderating effect. But, specialty of consulting firm gives significant moderating effect on the relationship between task competency and consulting project completion, and on the relationship between task competency and contribution to management performance. Thirdly, the characteristic of change management organization of client company revealed significant moderating effect only on the relationship between task competency and contribution to management performance.
