본 연구의 목적은 영화 <국제시장>의 분석을 통해 어떤 점이 관객들에게 감동을 준 것인지 그 핵심적 요소를 질적연구 방법을 통해 찾아보고자 한 것이다. 그 결과 영화 <국제시장>의 감동요소로 감성적 인간, 시대적 상황, 가난과 성공, 희생 혹은 헌신, 그리고 향수와 반전이 있었음을 알 수 있었다. 첫째, 감성적 인간은, 영화 <국제시장>의 주인공인 덕수(황정민)와 영자(김윤진)는 사는 게 어렵고 힘든 일 일지라도 언제나 마음이 따뜻한 감성을 가진 인간으로 표현된다. 또한 감성적인 장면을 많이 표현하여 영화를 보는 관객들의 감성을 건드림으로써 보는 이들에게 감동을 주었다둘째, <국제시장>은 한국전쟁 말미에 북한을 탈출해 남쪽으로 이주한 한 가족의 이야기로, 1950년대 한국전쟁 당시의 흥남철수를 시작으로 광부와 간호사의 독일파견과 월남참전, 그리고 이산가족 이야기까지 이러한 시대적 상황을 역사의 맥락에 따라 주인공인 덕수의 이야기를 다양하게 담아내었다. <국제시장>의 이러한 시대적 상황이 많은 관객들의 관심을 끌었고 또 관객들이 공감하며 영화를 볼 수 있었던 이유 중 하나가 된 것이다. 셋째, 가난과 성공으로의 결말이 감동을 주었다. 즉 <국제시장>은 우리 현대사 속에서 가난의 고난을 가족애와 가장의 희생으로 성공하게 되는 의미를 실감나게 표현함으로써 관객들에게 감동을 주었다. 넷째, 희생 혹은 헌신은 관객들에게 감동을 주었다. <국제시장> 속 아버지인 덕수는 오직 가족들을 위해 피나는 고생을 한 사람으로, 모든 것을 희생한 아버지 세대들의 애환은 공감과 감동을 주었다. 다섯째, 영화 <국제시장>은 흘러간 옛 노래와 50년대부터 2000년대까지의 국제시장의 변화하는 풍경, 독일에서 일하는 한국광부 및 간호사의 고달픈 일상과 월남전쟁, 국기에 대한 맹세, KBS 이산가족찾기 방송 등 과거에 대한 향수를 자극함으로써 관객들에게 감동을 주었다. 여섯째, 영화 <국제시장>에서는 덕수와 영자 커플, 그리고 달구와 독일사감 커플 등, 극과 극의 모습을 통해 반전을 느껴볼 수 있었다. 그리고 타향살이에 지친 광부와 간호사들이 댄스파티를 즐기며 행복한 시간을 보내지만 정작 그 모습을 보는 우리는 슬프게 느껴지는 것 역시 반전이다. 또한 덕수의 자식들 가족이 부모인 덕수와 영자에게 손주들을 맡기고 가족여행을 떠나자 덕수는 ‘우리는 가족이 아닌가’ 할 때 이 역시 웃음과 눈물이 겹쳐지는 반전인 것이다. 이러한 반전은 관객들을 웃기다가도 문득 슬픔에 잠기게 하고 이러한 슬픔은 가슴 뭉클한 감동으로 나타나는 것이다.

This study is aimed to explore the key factors that make it possible to move audience greatly by dint of an analysis on the film. The main elements include affective human, historical background, poverty and success, sacrifice or dedication, and nostalgia and a reversal. First of all, regarding an emotional human, the main characters, Deok-Soo(played by Jung-Min Hwang) and Yeong-Ja(Played by Yoon-Jin Kim), are nice and warm-hearted no matter how hard their life might be, which has much emotional appeal. Then, the film,<Ode to My Father>, is a story about a family who escaped from North Korea at end of the Korean War: the withdrawal of the troop of Heungnam, in the 1950s, dispatching the miners and nurses to Germany, entry into the Vietnam War and separated South and North Korean families. These historical backgrounds, reflected in the film, succeeded in captivating a large of audience. Besides, the ending of the film puts an emphasis on poverty and success, which touches audience deeply by expression of overcoming the poverty and of achieving success, through love for the family and father's sacrifice. Fourth, the virtue of sacrifice and devotion appeals to the heart of audience. Deok-Soo is the father who does anything as possible as he can for a family, which undoubtedly leads a myriad of viewers, especially in their fifties and sixties, step into the theater. Fifth, <Ode to My Father> reminds us of the old song, the process of the transition in the traditional market from the 1950s to the 2000s, a hard life of Korean miners and nurses in Germany, the pledge to the flag and the KBS program of reunions between separated families in the two Koreas. Last but not least, anyone who comes to watch the film can experience the reversal by observation of two couples, one Deok-Soo and Yeong-Ja, the other Dalgoo and a German proctor: even though Korean miners and nurses are seen to have a good time at a party, most of the spectators might have sorrowful expression on their face. Also, the scene that as the couple of Deok-Soo's children asks his parents to take care of the grandchildren for family trip, Deok-Soo says to himself, "Aren't we a family member?' definitely gives us laughter and tears at the same time. These reversals of the film helps to squeeze laughers and tears from audience, which makes us feel impressed.
