AB - The analysis of music video differs from film analysis because music is more important than moving image in music video in comparison with film. In this research, the spatial characteristics represented from the relationship between musical space and visual space are analysed in music video. Before the analysis of music video's spatial characteristics, each theory of the musical space and moving image's space is researched. And then these theories are applied to analyse spatial characteristics of music and visual image are analysed in music video. Firstly, when the movement of visual spaces cannot have spatial and temporal continuity, the temporal characteristic of music such as musical rhythm may apply to the temporal editing about the arrangement of moving image's spaces. The singer's character in the moving image of the music video can give spatial consistency to the temporal discontinuity of visual spaces. Secondly, lip-sync or non-lip-sync between vocal character image in the moving image and the song's vocal sound in music video determines coincidence or incoincidence between the musical space and the visual space in music video. This means that temporal matter of music video defines characteristics of musical and visual spaces. Thirdly, diegetic space of music video can be determined by the narrative world of music video, that can give effect to the analysis of the spatial characteristics of music and moving image in music video. The analysis of the spatial relationship between music and moving image in music video is closely related with the music video's temporal characteristic, and the meaning of narrative world of music video is considered for the analysis of music video's spaces.
