이 글에서는 ‘문학치료’를 표방한 대학의 강좌들이 앞으로 계속 늘어날 것이라는 예측을 하면서, 그 내실을 다지는 차원에서 한 사례로서 원광대학교 ‘서사와 문학치료’ 과목의 현황을 소개하고자 했다. ‘서사와 문학치료’ 과목은 국어국문학과 전공과목으로 개설되었는데, 수강생들의 전공을 살펴보면 국문과 학생 외에도 문예창작학과나 사범대 중등특수교육과 학생들이 다수 수강하는 편이다. 강좌를 개설할 때는 졸업생들의 진로와 관련해 조금이나마 실제적인 도움을 주고자 하는 마음이 앞섰는데, 지금에 와서 보면 이 과목이 학생들의 취업에 직결되는 형태로 도움을 주지는 못했다고 생각한다. 그러나 이 수업을 통해 학생들이 문학 작품을 바라보는 시야가 넓어졌고, 문학 작품이 지니는 치유적 기능에 대해 깊은 관심을 기울이게 되었다는 사실은 분명하다. 치료와 관련된 문학의 역할과 방법을 모색하는 영역 역시 ‘서사와 문학치료’ 과목의 주요 목표 가운데 하나이다. 졸업 후 국문과 졸업생들이 문학이라는 매개를 통해 그들의 제자들을 키워내는 위치에 서는 경우는 허다하다. 이러한 상황에 직면했을 때 ‘서사와 문학치료’ 과목을 통해 익힌 내용들이 실제 수업에서 뿐만 아니라 제자들과 소통을 하는 데 있어서도 큰 도움이 될 것이라 믿는다. 구체적으로 원광대 ‘서사와 문학치료’ 과목에 대한 전반적인 사항을 소개한 후, 2012학년도 1학기에 진행된 ‘서사와 문학치료’ 과목에서 학생들이 제출했던 레포트의 유형을 분석하고 그 가운데 몇 편을 중점적으로 검토했다. 학생들의 레포트에 특별히 관심을 갖는 것은 이를 통해 학생들이 ‘서사와 문학치료’ 강의에서 인상 깊게 받아들인 부분이 무엇이고, 또 발전된 부분이 무엇인가를 찾을 수 있기 때문이다. 마지막으로는 이 과목을 진행하면서 필자가 느낀 아쉬운 점이나 학생들로부터 제기된 문제에 대한 해결을 고민함으로써 전반적인 ‘문학치료’ 강좌의 미래를 모색하고자 했다.
Predicting that college courses claiming to be 'literature therapy' willcontinue to increase, this analysis attempted to introduce the presentcondition of the 'narration and literature therapy' course of WonkwangUniversity in terms of enriching its substance. The 'narration and literature therapy' course was established as themajor subject of the department of Korean language and literature, butnot only the students majoring in Korean literature but many studentsfrom the department of creative writing or from the department ofsecondary special education at the college of education take this course. The primary consideration of opening this course was to give somepractical help to the graduates with regard to their future career, butlooking back on it now, this course does not appear to help the studentsdirectly to find employment. However, it is clear that through this classthe students broadened their view of literary works and took a deepinterest in the therapeutic function of literary works. The domain ofexploring literature's role and methods related to therapy is also one ofthe major objectives of the 'narration and literature therapy' course. Many graduates from the department of Korean literature are in aposition to cultivate their students through the medium of literature. Faced with such circumstances, it is certain that the contents that they learned through the 'narration and literature therapy' course will begreatly helpful not only in actual classes but also in communicating withtheir students. Specifically, after introducing overall matters about the 'narration andliterature therapy' course of Wonkwang University, the types of thepapers submitted by the students in the 'narration and literature therapy'course during the 1stsemester of the 2012 academic year were analyzedand some of which were intensively reviewed. I paid special attention tothe papers of the students because through this I can find out what thestudents have accepted impressively in the 'narration and literaturetherapy' course and in what par they have made progress. Finally, Iattempted to explore the future of the overall 'narration and literaturetherapy' course by agonizing over the things to be further improved andthe solution to the problems raised by the students.
