본 연구는 다문화교육 학위논문의 연구 동향을 살펴보고, 그것을 바탕으로 미래지향적인 다문화교육의 방향을 모색하였다. 이를 위해 최초의 다문화교육 학위논문이 등장한 1994년부터 2010년 2월까지의 석․박사 학위논문 745건을 분석하였다. 이를 분석틀에 의거하여 시기와 대상 범주에 대한 연구 동향으로 나누었다. 분석 결과, 시기적으로 1993년 김영삼 정부의 ‘세계화 선언’과 2006년의 「다문화가정 자녀교육지원 대책」을 계기로 연구 동향 상 큰 변화가 있는 바, 이에 따른 시기적 구분이 가능하며, 현 한국 사회는 ‘다문화교육 준비기’에 위치함을 제시하였다. 대상적으로 정부의 다문화교육 대상자 설정 범주의 편협함이 존재하는 바, 결혼 이민자를 중심으로 한 범주 설정의 한계를 지적하였다. 향후 다문화교육이 지향해야 할 방향으로 메타 분석적 접근을 제안하였고, 다문화교육기에 대비한 연구 토대의 질적 성장이 필요하며, 다문화 인식 확산 및 다문화적 역량 배양이 중요하다.
The purpose of this paper is to examine research trend of multicultural education of thesis for degree and to explore future-oriented the directions of multicultural education. To this, I analyzed thesis for degree of 745 item by analysis framework. The result of analysis can be summarized in two major forms. First, those researches can be classified as time. Last, specified a limitation of category institution which in the focusing marriage immigrant as an object. I shall intend to suggest three point about aimed-directions of multicultural education; (1)meta-analytic approaches, (2)qualitative growth of research foundation for preparation of multicultural education ages, (3)the spreading of multicultural awareness and cultivating of multicultural capacity.
